Default Does anyone else read about high speed chases and think...

Every time I see some story about a high speed chase, they say something like "in excess of 100 mph."

Am I the only one who thinks "man, if I was really running from the cops, I'd be feeling the happy end of 140 at LEAST!"

My crappy wagon can do 110, why do people run in such slow cars?

You may be able to GO that fast, but can you weave around traffic at that speed?

I ran from a cop going 25mph once, I finally stopped and he asked me what I was doing I said "driving around till I thought you would get bored and leave me alone"

I think of Buddy and his 966TT out running Texas. He got caught eventually while getting gas or something.

yeah. Especially if the vehicle is capable of going faster. running up to 100 between wolfpacks on the freeway is nothing.

boxered: true enough

Also, I guess they don't like to show the criminals getting away... I *do* recall seeing video of a guy on a sportbike making a damn good run, going up the breakdown lane at godawful speeds.

Not that I condone that kind of thing. I just don't see how you can be doing 100 and think you're getting away... the cops can go that fast, too, and there are more of them!

Yeah eheh, I'd forgotten all the details. I think they ditched the highway and were trying to hide out. The authorities had called out the SWAT Team on his ass.

I do wonder about that. They'll be a chase on a 11:30 at night on an open freeway and the newscasters will say, "The chase now in it's second hour with speeds reaching in excess of [i]85 MPH!!![/]"

Is that supposed to be fast?

I always wondered why they don't drive to the nearest mall and ditch the car in the front and walk in. The cops might see what you are wearing but you could just by new clothes and change and then get a buddy to pick you up.

If I was a cop, I'd end it in under 5 minutes. Gunshot/shotgun to the upper body (and possibly tires). He is risking more lives than my gunfire would.

Either copy the Spaniards: anyone else see that vid posted on OT a while ago where the bank robber took off on the motorcycle and the cops pulled a car from a side street in front of him while he was at maybe 60mph?

Yes, that's what I'm talking about. Bring out the dumptruck.

Or simply post a sniper on the road ahead...

I bet chases would stop quickly after the first publicised use of those techniques.

Because they have your car with the license plate, they now know who you are and where you live, and they're right behind you anyway so you're not likely to be able to ditch and walk away.

Anyone else remember the police chases video where they were chasing a stolen M3 driven by a kid and he got away but they replayed the part where he initially pulled over and said they caught him?

americans are too pansies to use brute force

I too saw this man that had a baby as hostage, the cops got close enougt to put a gun in his head and shoot him. Problem solved.

My dad once made a bet that he could get from home to his job in 45 mins. To do that he would have to go at 140mph, which he did. The cops coulnt catch him, ended up in a road block. He got off, but had to wait for the POS of a car the cop had. So he lost the bet.
