I just had the factory stereo (junk) and factory speakers (junk) removed from my '98 Subie and replaced with Aftermarket stuff. I've noticed that all 4 speakers sound great except for the annoying rattle coming from the passenger door (caused by the front passenger speaker). This rattle only occurs during certain (most) bass frequencies in Dance music. Rock, Jazz, and Vocal stuff are fine.
Does anyone have any experience with what to do to stop the rattle from your doors?

Is there anything in the pocket in the door? I keep tapes/cd's in there, and that has always been the cause of my problems....

Nahh, I think the problem is in the door. The whole plastic part seems to vibrate.

Ahh, then did you do the work, or did someone else? I'm sure you'd be careful with your toys, but if someone else did it, they may have broken one of the clips holding the panel on. Put on something that's completely ghetto bass, turn the balance right and the fader front. Try putting pressure on the parts of the door as you get a good thump, and see if you can isolate what part of the panel is vibrating, or if it is from inside the door itself. Might just be the door panel banging against the interior of the door due to the vibration.

My MY99 wagon does the same thing, and the panel has never been off. I have an amp, but the speakers are stock (upgrade). Only the front passenger door buzzes, and only on tight bass hits (breaks/breakbeats).

You are absolutely correct. I tried wedging some cardboard in various spots between the panel and the frame and have identified the culprit area. The cardboard has now found a new home and my bass sounds the way it should. Thanks for all your help!

Maybe Subaru can modify the door pressing or panel molding for more clearance. Otherwise the aftermarket will offer us 'vibration damping kits' based on your design

guys.. a lot of the wrattle is between those white peg thingys that hold the door panel with the door.. i got rid of a lot of wrattling by putting dum-dum (some play-do will work too) and putting it between the white pegs and the panel..
this way the pegs still have free play to get back in.. but wont wrattle once in. try it i think ull see a noticable diff. |

Yeah, I have a similar problem. I still have the terrible stock system, but my driver's side door rattles above a certain volume (and at certain engine RPMs). The funny thing is that I've had the passenger's side door pannel off, but not the driver's side.
My plan is to get some spray-on sound damper (deadener) and give the doors a good once over. I intend to put some Wattage in there later, so I'm going to need it. The info about damping the clips is good to know, thanks. -Red |
