Default UTEC + Tuner Pro - Thoughts?

I'm thinking about getting a UTEC and Tuner Pro this week, and I was wondering if anyone has some experience with this setup. I am new to tuning, but have been reading a lot (wrxhackers.com) and think that I could get the hang of it. Is the Tuner really worth buying at first? Or would it be better to just buy the UTEC and spend a couple hundred on a custom tune? Either way, I will eventually be tuning the car myself. Thoughts?

BTW Power mods are:

Turboxs full 3 inch TBE w/ RFL
Turboxs Shorty Intake

Future: Deadbolted VF34, Walbro, Injectors, Turboxs FMIC

If you can afford it i would just grab a tuner pro, even if you end up getting tuned by someone else. It is a pretty good tool to have handy, on top of the normal guages.

Im getting the UTEC and tuner. I havent used a UTEC before, but I cant imagine trying to tune one without a knock sensor and wide-band

I know alot of people have done so just fine, but I think now that its out its kind of a no brainer if your already getting a utec IMHO

Thanks guys, I actually went ahead and ordered the Tuner Pro tonight because the price is pretty good right now (550 vs. 700). I haven't gotten the UTEC yet, I'm waiting on a slightly used unit from someone in my area for a good price, if that doesn't work out I'll just go ahead and buy it for retail. I realized that if I want to tune my car safely and effectively the Tuner Pro was necessary.

You don't need the TunerPro because of the knock sensor, since the car already has one built in that is clearly readable in your UTEC logs, but the WB-AFR data is very valuable for the tuning and the way it clearly and seamlessly integrates into the UTEC logs is unbeatable.

if you have a utec, the tuna is a must-have. if you dont have a utec, the tuna is still an awesome piece by itself.

since ive had my utec, ive had a tuna...and frankly, i dont know how people tune without one.

Looks like I got in just under the wire...Ordered the Tuner Pro last night at the sale price of 550, checked this morning and it was up to 700 again.
