What exactly is the DTEC? I mean I see the GBA... but is it just a cable and software for the GBA to interface with the Tuner/Utec?

From Turboxs' website

"The DTEC plugs into your Gameboy Advance (GBA) and comes preloaded with software that lets you use your Gameboy as a Boost Gauge, Exhaust Gas Temperature Gauge, Air Temperature Gauge and Tachometer. Future plug-n-play sensors will allow everything from Knock Indication to Vehicle Acceleration (ie. G-Force)."

I would love to know if this requires another "box", like the Tuna, or if it actually uses the GBA. Hopefully it's not incredibly expensive either (~400 would be nice) I currently only have a boost gauge, and would like to get an EGT gauge, but the DTEC seems like a good alternative to buying a set of expensive Defi gauges, plus it has the logging capability and will be compatible with the Tuna Pro and Utec I have on the way.

so wait... if you already have a utec and a laptop computer to tune the utec with, then the dtec is basically just for the novelty of having your gba as a set of gauges? and seeing data logs displayed on it?

What are you going to do, velcro the gameboy to your dashboard?

Just lay it out on the passenger seat to log while tuning. I'm mostly interested in it's data logging capabilities, and the ability to tune the UTEC.
BTW, I don't have a compatible laptop (titanium g4).

You should really read the forums on wrxhackers.com. People have been tuning the UTEC with Macs for years now. I use my 12" G4 laptop for all my datalogging and tuning. All you need is a USB to Serial adaptor ($19-40) and a copy of Z-Term (free).

No problem. Just trying to save you money. Although, getting a DTEC would be pretty cool.

I can do that too

The thing to remember is this is modular. So you are going to start at one basic price, and then go up from there. Asking how much the DTEC is going to cost is kinda simplistic. There will be the base module and then all the releases that allow for additional functionality.

It will be priced VERY nice, IMO.

From everything I've seen it's just a display... not an input device.

I am not sure everyone noticed the links at the bottom of the first DTEC page, but there are three total pages about the DTECs features.

It is much more than a display. From the third page on the website:

"The Fuel Tuning!

But this is just the beginning. With the purchase of additional hardware/software packages from TurboXS, you can turn your DTEC into a powerful electronic fuel computer or boost controller. The DTEC fuel computer adjusts the Air/Fuel Ratio by modifying the air-flow meter/MAP sensor signal against engine load and RPM with tuning resolution that is second to none. The DTEC boost controller provides you with total control in either open or closed loop operation, all the while allowing you to display, record or playback any of the input or output signals like RPM, MAF or MAP.

The DTEC is a highly versatile, customizable, upgradeable performance tool that gives you a good excuse to go out and buy yourself a Gameboy. Buy make no mistake, the DTEC is no toy. It is a highly advanced and powerful tool for automotive performance tuning.

The DTEC will begin shipping in late September 2004 so stay tuned! "

Lots of vague information and no mention of a price. Seems a bit odd to me that TXS expects to ship these in a month or so and doesn't yet know what they are going to charge .

That said, this is a nice concept. I'd be interested, but only up to a price of $150 or so (not incl. GBA and sensors). I'm not too interested in the advanced functions, but just the basic gauges and data-logging. Basically, something like an Auterra/Palm-computer setup, but with a sampling rate like delta-dash.

TurboXS has been burned by letting to much information out early. They have a price in mind, as Rifts and I eluded to. Personally I think there is a tantalizing amount of information there. How much more do you want? They tell you it is a gauge cluster. They tell you it will make it so you can tune your UTEC without a laptop. They tell you that it will be capable of being a fuel map and a boost controller with future upgrades. Other than that I would think the user manual is the only additional information needed, oh and a price

Guys, we don't have a lot to say about these just yet because demand is already pretty high. We don't really want to hype this much more until we have them in hand.
