Default STi RA 5mt or STi V7 STi 6mt......

okay, i'm trying to decide whether to get just a 5mt STi RA tranny which would be pretty much a direct swap into my '02 WRX and much cheaper (i think?) or just go for the whole package deal V7/V8 STi 6mt, however i'll need much more things to get it to work (hubs, axles, R180, DS, etc.). so how much of a difference is the RA 5mt to the 6mt? i'm not looking to build a monster of a car, but maybe about 300-350whp or so.

to do the 6MT you dont HAVE to do the R180, but it is nice. you could just use the R160 with 3.9 ring and pinion. thats what i did to retain my legacy axles and such. i would say it will be about 4500 to do a six speed swap as opposed to 3000 for 5 speed depending on prices you pay.

so would this be due to the use of the 160 diff and not the 180 or just something else totally different? so what busted inside? sorry, i know it's sad memory.

it wasnt from using the R160, a bolt from inside the tranny, that was either left there loose or it came loose from driving somehow(doubt that could happen in 90 miles) got pushed out through the tranny case right around the center diff housing. so it punched a hole in my case.

i was pissed and super disappointed but im hoping all will be made right asap.
