Default Trans Fluid vs Front Diff Fluid

Last week I had my 00 2.5RS at the dealer for leaking trans fluid. They said they replaced the trans wiring harness O ring. Over the weekend I noticed there was still some fluid leaking. Took the car back today and the told me that the current leak was actually from the front diff fluid having been overfilled by about 2 quarts. I had the fluid changed in April (April fluid change was not done by Subaru). They drained the diff fluid to the proper level and said everything is fine now.

Is it possible for this to happen? Why would it take 4 months for an overfilled front diff to start leaking? Could an overfilled front diff cause the trans wiring harness O ring to fail?

I am a bit confused!

Any info would be helpful.

Brian

Got the car back from the dealer. Overfilled front diff did not cause trans fluid leak, just coincidence apparently. They drained the diff and refilled to the correct level and all is good.

According to the tech the front diff has an overflow valve so when the front diff would get hot the additional fluid would then seek the easiest way out.

I'm happy that there was no charge...not even a diagnostic fee or extended warranty deductible. That suprised me since the front diff was overfilled by an independent shop.

Good to hear it's all good but...

Don't the transmission and the front differential share the same fluid? (on Manual Transmissions anyways) (or are you driving an Automatic?)

Sorry, forgot to mention that it's an auto trans.
