Default the impregacy update (impreza/legacy hybrid)

well, I don't know that it's really a hybrid, lol.

Well, now that I've got the 93 L front bumper on, and even though it looks somewhat cheesy on those cars, everyone seems to agree that it looks pretty decent on mine. so anyhow, I'm starting to wonder if the side panels, front lights, and grill will all swap. (all together of course)

If they did, that'd be cool. I know this much so far...

The Gen II legacy hood is wider than the Gen I impreza hood
The Gen II legacy hood is the same length from front to back
The Gen II legacy bumper is the same width and heighth from top to bottom

So with that, I'm wondering if I changed the skirts, lights, grill, if I would need to use my hood or an impreza hood? It's cool to see how all of this is coming together, it's just too bad nobody else out there has really tried anything like this.

I'm still wondering on the whole rear bumper swap thing. I think they can.

And in all of this, if these parts (esp.) fit without much trouble, this means aftermarket impreza stuff is now an option for those who want body kits or special lights or whatever.

later all. I may get some more clarification later this weekend if I can manage to go up to a friend's house.

you might need to use the fendersto swap the headlights and grill...also you might need the hood. atleast from what it sounds like...but i might be wrong. i guess the only way to find out for sure is to try it.

let us know if it works or not.

yeah, no kidding.

If I can use the fenders, hood, lights, and grill, I could have a nice looking legacy. And be able to use the WRX hood scoop or possibly the CF wrx hood.

Or just have a different look. Or have people go "hey look at that impreza pass by me... wait a sec... that's a legacy... ***?"

hehe

YAY! It's almost official, at least, I hope so... my car and I should be arriving in hood river for WCSS6 about 10:00 -/+ 45 minutes tonight. I just detailed the inside. spot cleaned the carpet, vacuumed, brushed, and deodarized. I should never have considered ever working on the car, driving it, and being greasy at the same time(s) lol. but it's clean now. floor mats clean, inside clean, smells 100% better. chicks should dig it.

this now allows me to sleep int he car (roll down the back seats, pull out the sleeping bag, pillows, and blankets.)

This will be bad ass. Hopefully Hondasucks (USMB) and Caboobaroo (USMB) will have both of their vehicles there.

Caboobaroo (russ) has a high compression JDM 1600 in his Gen I brat, converted to RWD, rides on the bump stops, and has no front suspension. for some reason the rear dif is open, but it posies all day long? I'm serious... both wheels burnin rubber all the time. front e brake helps in all of this. lol.

hondasucks (andrew) has a Gen III Turbo wagon, with a d/r 5 speed, gutted cats, and no exhaust after the tranny area. It's pimpin, white, and will most hopefully be both running and have a graphite colored hood upon arrival.

My legacy of course is red, has a black wing, the impreza front bumper, the forester 6 spoke alloys, and has a JDM EJ22 that hauls ass. (remember, one of my kills is a '99 2.5GT Legacy sedan...mwahaha, along with a turbo talon, a 142hp 2500lb mazda miata, blah blah blah... 20mpg all day long. I hate my mileage, but my car is so fun to drive... haha.)

I'm considering having written on the rear windshield, "WCSS6 or BUST" and crossing out "BUST" and putting in "CEL" just for kicks. I'm weird, or maybe dumb, but who cares. I'm so excited to get away from everything around here for a while and see my favorite cars.

later all

Default new update

so, was at WCSS6, which rocked, and with the open hoods and all, was able to make measurements.

1. The hood overall is slightly smaller width on the imprezas. (due to fenders)
2. the lights from passenger side meets the fender, to driver's side meets the fender, is the same distance among legacys and imprezas.
3. the grill looks like it has the same mounting spots.
4. the bumper we already know swaps
5. the fenders are the same length from door to lights/corner of hood area
6. the hood are also the same length from windshield to front end.

So, what with, the lights being curved differently, that means in order to just swap the lights, the fenders, hood, and grill need to be swapped. as they all fit together differently than the legacy front end pieces do. but, it looks like they will swap, so far. the only real way to know is to find someone or a yard that I can grab all these pieces from. I already know of a couple places to grab all the pieces, but I'd have to repaint them.

okay, so when I'm done, if all this works, here's the overall eventual plan for the car: (* means both STI, or both WRX style together.)

Stock Mica Red 947 body color
STi V5 front bumper, matched color to car
STi V5 rear bumper, matched color to car
Legacy WRC Side skirts
JDM Clear (no lines) headlights
OBS Hood (or STI hood scoop *)
WRX wing (or STI *)
possibly the hood and wing either CF or matching the car.

Some may not like the idea of changing a legacy this much, but hey, this is my car, and I'm sure there are some people out there who are interested in getting more aftermarket choice for body pieces. This, if it works, would open up all '93-'01 impreza body pieces (-minus the side skirts, haven't measured them... lol)

btw - the legacys do have a bigger engine bay. so when it comes time for a TT engine, of course, much harder to manage in the impreza. so we DO have the advantage!

<::Also, this has been posted at USMB. For those who don't subscribe, I would suggest it.::>

*cries*

the fender lines matching the doors, and the starting part of the windshield don't match.

*good news*

'00-'02 legacy (and hopefully outback) front end pieces swap. you want those cooler looking beefier bumpers and the bigger headlights and cooler lookin grills? grab them and the bumper beam, fenders, ect. all the parts needed. all the lines match up. but you'll need them all from one year and model of car for sure accuracy. this is why a donor car with all the parts you need is PREFERRED.

btw - I got a 93 impreza bumper beam swapped into my car now. the stock L series legacy gen II bumper beam is TINY in comparison. the bumper is now secured 300% better, and doesn't flex like it did when I "made do" with the other beam.

good news, bad news, new news.

I've been following your thread but now my mind is just boggling. So any Impreza 93-01 front bumper will work on the BD/BG Legacys as will 00-02 Legacys front clips. I am moderatley suprised by the Impreza swap but the BE/BH stuff on the BD/BGs is a big suprise.

you've gotta be kidding me...does this mean 2.5RS front bumpers will fit? I'd love to have a stock 2.5RS bumper on my car...will it work??

Is this the domicile of Dr FrankenSubaru?

Man this is insane! That would look awesome.....a Leg with an 00-01 RS front bumper. Even more so with on a GT!

Keep going man! You defintely have some free time and many resources at your finger tips.

the 00-01 RS bumper will swap. but you need the bumper beam that is SPECIFIC to that bumper! lol. the 2.5 RS bumper beam may be different than the low end bumper beam.

It will take some modification to the very corners of the bumper skin, where it is at the wheel area, meeting the end of the fender to complete the big U curve for the fender well. the impreza fenders are straight, but the legacy ones slope down right near the last 2" for about a 15 degree angle.

there might be other fitment issues, but as for the width and height aspect, they are the same among bumpers. only slight tweaking issues would be required as long as you have the matching bumper beam.

but as for swappign impreza bumpers onto a legacy and having it be in ANY way just a simple bolt on, NO. It took me about 2 hours to get my bumper on, and modified enough to fit like it looks stock.

blech. Too much work for me. Besides, if it doesn't make the car go faster or help perform better.....I ain't buying it.

except for JDM tails, side markers and headlamps.

We all know JDM stuff is worth a few ponies here and there
