Default Help me out with this issue (smoke out exhaust

last few days I'm getting some white smoke out my exhaust... it seems like alot to me, but not like all the time, its almost clear, just barely has a white color to it.

it smells a little like coolant/water.

I just topped off the overflow bottle with some watterwetter from redline, it went a little over the "max" on the overflow bottle, could that be the excess water burning off through the exhaust?

or maybe am I looking at a Headgasket taking a dump. (not to familar with boxer engines, any help is appreciated)

Is it using Coolant??
Coolant when 'Vaporised' has an acrid smell....
Overfilling the coolant CANNOT help it into the Combustion chamber....
Only happens when Cold??

Yep,
sounds like a head gasket to me.

Are you still under 100k miles? There was a service recall on our cars and you are covered to 100k. I got mine done with 13 miles left on the ticker. It is a good opportunity to discount some mods if you have any planned. I had the clutch and pressure plate replaced along with the cams, oil pump and a bunch of seals and gaskets while it was apart. I spent less than $500 on labor because the engine was already out of the car...

at 56k miles... I shouldn't be having a headgasket problem...

I just went to the dealer and asked if If I had any recalls that are open and the Dealer said one.. tha thad to do with the cooling system, and it got done :-)

Should I go back and ask them to take a look and see if somethign went wrong?

my hg's went at 56k in my DOHC 2.5L....
so dont think it cant/shouldnt happen to you

the "cooling system" service bulletin you just had filled, is the headgasket 'recall' that was referred to already.

yes i would take the car in and have it looked at...
white smoke out the back = bad

There are recalls and there are bulletins. The dealer will tell you about recalls, but not necessarily bulletins. It used to be, you could get a list of the titles of recalls and bulletins from http://www.alldata.com/ for your car.

Interesting that you are all saying white smoke, when the 2.5 Quad Cam was not known for this type of H/Gasket failure!! They normally fail between Combustion chamber and Water Jacket, resulting in coolant loss and 'STEAM' from exhaust.

Please clarify

Steam smoke, looks the same to me... :-P

Seriously though, After I make a quick stop by Home depot to make a cold air box... I'm thinking about going to Subaru and seeing if there is a problem, I really hope they don't charge my ass... :'(
