Default Poor sales?

I have a feeling that Subaru is losing a lot of money on the Baja... they're not moving any units...

On autosite, it reported 415 units sold in September 2002... They've gotta be losing money on it with sales that poor!

Things like this scare me when it comes to FHI bringing over the high HP variants of the cars we have now...

That's funny. I wonder how Subaru decided that a large proportion of potential Baja buyers watch Wheel of Fortune.

Have Baja sales already peaked at less than 1000 per month?

Sep - 415
Oct - 881
Nov - 606

The Subaru press release announcing November sales said "Sales of the Baja model decreased slightly this month, ..." A 31 percent decline from the previous month is slight?

yikes... 31% eh...?

would be more beneficial to them IMHO to advertise it a bit more... there is a market for the car out there... they just arent reaching it...

IMO they should have spent all the money they used for the Baja on bringing the B4 or other fast Legacys over I like the baja though, its brat-tastic.

Had it arrived with the supercharged EJ25, dual range tranny short front and rear overhangs and some of the other features they pimped it with at the autoshows it would have sold like crazy. Take away all the uniqe and useful features and the sales go away as well.

Nissan came out with a supercharged small SUV and people gobbled it up. Subaru says they are then welch on it and put in the basic EJ25, people walk away.

I am a prime example. I WAS going to get one. But with the changes I would have to make for it to be useful I would be investing 10Gs over the already inflated purchase price just to get it close to where 2k would have gotten me had it included the SC and dual range tranny. Then the front and rear overhang would still be murder.

So I just elected to put that money into the monster BRAT already in hanger 51.

Have you driven over a Baja lately? (meant in good humor)

Subaru is advertising the Baja like crazy on TV around here. It's on every station during nearly every program. However, no matter how often they play their commercials, Subaru's commercials SUCK! They really do need to find a new advertising agency. Look at Kia commercials (funny), or Mazda (zoom zoom = catchy). The Baja commercial consists of a bland white screen showing the Baja rotate while someone says "The world's first multiple choice vehicle." It doesn't get anybody's attention.

I think sales will take off once they put a bigger engine in the Baja.

I can't figure it out, we can't keep em on the lot here. I was lucky we managed to find exactly the one I wanted, silver 5 spd with nothing on it.

We sold 10 last month and already have sold 3 this month.

I think they're trying to cater to the California and extreme sports type. Get rid of that clading.

We have not sold one yet since they have been out. I heard that they have already stopped producing them.

Really?

Most automotive magazines seem to carry the Baja ads.

And down here in So Cal, we have the Baja ads at the local movie theater as well. Not to mention the TV ads...

However, I have not seen any Baja driving around...

Car sales always seem to be better in Spring time, subaru might be waiting to start its marketing campaign later. The dealership here has one, it looks nice, but I find it a bit expensive for what you get.

Default its no good..........

The Subaru Dealer near me has not sold "one" thay have 10 cars on the lot, Thay have only given 8 or 9 test drives for it to boot.

If I was running Subaru this would be the new plan, Use the word "BRAT", Take off all the Plastic body Crap !! and I mean Crap !! put 2 small seats in the open back, Bring price down to a Legacy L or Brightin $ 16,999

Keep it simple........... and cheap, Then I think it would work ? But who the hell knows...........

Can you say SVX........

W3rd, what exactly is the point of the Baja? The bed is so small you can't haul anything of size. It's not enclosed like an Outback. It's obviously not a hot rod, with a plain jane 2.5 in it. It also has more cladding than a Pontiac Aztek. To me it's just rather useless. Baja=bastardized Outback.
