What alarms out there have autostart for a manual transmission? I heard CompuStar was the only one and it would be about $550 installed.
Thanks, Scooter

Don't quote me on this but I think that any alarm system with remote start capabilities can be used on a manual transmission car. The problem arises when you try to get it installed. Most places (at least where I live won't install remote starts on manual transmission cars due to liability issues.
Case in point: My friend had her civic si (whatever) wired with a remote start. Her friend had parked the car and left it in gear so when she tried to start the car with her remote, the car jumped forward (after a few tries turning the engine over) over the concrete block that was in front of the car and forward another two feet. Imagine if the cinder block was replaced with a small child. If you really want to go through with this, I believe there is a sensor mounted to the clutch pedal that you can undo in order to start the car remotely. An added bonus (or not) is that you'll be able to start the car without pressing the clutch. Goodluck |

I recently bought a Clifford Solaris for $210 - they explicitly have support for auto-start with manual transmissions. Basically, they've got a switch that you rig up to tell the alarm whether the car is in gear or not - if it's in gear, it refuses to start.

If your thinking of getting the autostart, just keep in mind that it is a PAIN in the arse to install by yourself -- and pretty complicated too. Honestly, I wouldn't let some mechanic that I didn't trust install it because there are a lot of things that can go wrong and you could end up screwing up your baby. Just my 2 cents,

Installing an autostart on a subie should be fairly simple. The ignition system is pretty basic and there are no coded keys or any of that b.s.
