OMG..U got Beat by a BAJA

Subaru Stars What do you call it...

What do you call it? What is it? Who makes it?

These are some of the questions ive had to field when someone is curious enough to ask about my baja either when out at a store parkinglot as im putting groceries in the bed or pumping go-juice at a gas station (turbo gets thirsty very quick but i love it that way )

sometimes i smile and say ' "oh.. this is a Baja..by subaru...sorta like a mini avalanche..."

to which they answer, " oh sorta like a mini truck?"

i usually concede and say "yep"

But this gets me to thinking. i love this vehicle....but what is it?

a mini truck?........cuz of the truck bed in the back
a station wagon with the top of the rear end cut off?.......cuz its based on the legacy wagon
a car with no trunk lid in the back?.......cuz its based on a unibody structure

so what do all you proud baja owners consider this vehicle to be?

car? truck?

and why dont we have a baja icon goshdarnit!?

heh i like the truckar one best....

but what do you feel the vehicle is.. i mean..if you had parked it in a lot full of trucks cars and suvs.. how would you refer to it to a co-worker that needs to go to it and bring back something you forgot to you?

would you tell them it was the car that looks like a truck or vicecersa?

or when your driving down the road..is it your truck or is it your car?

MPV doesn't do it justice....besides the mazda mini van had already cornered the market on using that name as part of its badging.... mazda mpv.

and..
anything can be a mpv...

but what term do you find yourself using more often when refering to your baja...asides of "baja".

"yeah honey im gonna take the mpv out for a spin"

or

"sure. ill swing by and pick you up in the mpv"

mpv?......subaru's brillant marketing team...yes the ones that say."no dont advertise it ..we will sell more"..strikes again...

Hey,
This is what I tell people when they feel the need to ask.
Me: My Baja is my AWD car with a tiny pick-up bed that can handle very well offroad. It is a Subaru. You know. They make the WRX.
Them: Uhh...
Me: A fast sports sedan.
Them:
Me: Goes fast.
Them: Ohhh...So your um..car goes fast?
Me: Sometimes.

But thats only some people.

In the 04 Baja brouchure they call it a MCV Multiple Choice Vehicle, how does that one sound.I just like to call it Baja,or you can call it a 4DST 4 Door Sports Truck.Nissan started the 4DSC 4 Door Sports Car back in 89 on the Maxima.

My wife calls it a truck. I call it a car with a bed. When people ask we say "Baja"

Beach truck We had a big cooler, 4 boogie boards, and a bag with towels blackets and extra clothes in the bed. We got to the beach and the surf was dead

Waiting for the tropical storm to get a weee bit closer

My dad calls it a truck. The only thing I had close to a truck (in my life), was an El-Camino. It wasn't AWD, it was H-I-C-K. ROFLOL! With the soul of a 69 Corvette, and swivel bucket seats, actually it wasn't a hick car. I showed it a few times, but never won any awards.
I don't think the Baja is a truck. Yes it has a bed, but so does my room. It rides and handles like a car, with the ground clearence of a truck. I don't know.....
I am still trying to get used to hearing "hey, nice truck." Thanks Bubba, I really appreciate that. I enjoy the compliments, but it's not a truck IMHO. It's a.....
Baja, just as Subaru intended.

"trucklet"

Or I kind of like the Aussie term "ute".

Check out some of Holden's Utes...

I used to live in Australia, those things are mean! Serious muscle-cars, they have dirty street racing and the whole bit with them.

Not to get too far off topic, but Holden is another GM subsidary/partner...

The Holden Monaro was massaged to make the new Pontiac GTO. Expect more Holden/USDM GM collaboration in the future...

The Utes are nice, but I guess you can't get 4WD or AWD on them... ah well..

Parked next to my friend's Chevy Surburban it look's higher, than I thought it first did.
