Default Hardwire Escort radar detector

Has anyone hardwired their radar detector into the clock harness? I'd like to install my Escort hardwire (smartcord) thru the clock dash panel, tie into the clock harness, and put the smart module in the ashtray.

shouldn't be a problem. there is an ignition switched power in that harness. many people use it to power their gauges.

OK, thanks. I'm sure the mA load of the detector won't be too much. All I need then are the yellow/green wire (switched 12V) and the black wire (ground).

I know I should have probably used the clock or the cig lighter but I just used the radio harness since I installed my stereo at the same time. Here is a pic of where I put mine.

Any of those power sources mentioned will do. The hardest part is getting the wires into the ashtray area.
It is easy with the auto heater/ac but more difficult with the manual since it's much larger. Not sure what the 05 WRX has. Use a wire snake wire to get the wires through.

The '05 WRX has full auto climate controls and there is space behind the ashtray as well as below the clock assembly to easily pass the wires through. Snaking shouldn't be hard at all. The smartmodule will fit nicely in the ashtray and be concealed from view until I want to see it, blue LEDs and all. My dash is different than the pics above and the cup holder is no longer in that lousey location.
