Preach it loud Mud Pig!!!
Back when I was a bartender I would occasionally fill in for a buddy at a very trendy upscale hotel bar here in Dallas. For any of you even thinking of calling BS I can assure you that I have witnessed similar encounters on many nights.

The hotel lounge is best worked solo, unless you have a very experienced wingman who knows when to get lost, and you can get quality one nighters from women who may be way out of your regular ballpark.
Some tips for success...
Dress business casual.
You don't live in the city, you have an office here.
Leave the cellphone in the car.
Pick an ordinary job..."I'm in marketing" they really don't care.
Get to the point, find out if they are there for the same reason you are.
Wrap it up and have fun.

Way to go Mud Pig, your certificate from the Manwhore Institute is in the mail.

DanRx is correct. Hotel bars are easy pickings for travelling businesswomen in their 30s. Just look like you are travelling too.

Well I wore a pair of nice jeans from some trendy @ss shop in G-town. They're called Lucky Brand. I had an Oakley collared shirt on and a pair of Kenneth Cole shoes. So I looked like I had my chit together and I'm not a slacker when it comes to having intelligent conversations with teh wimmenz.

Most of the women just wanted to know about DC and thought it was nice to meet a local. Forget about the sex part and I had a great time just talking to some intelligent women who had goals in life and something to say on a variety of subjects.

Oddly enough I did notice that none of the other guys sitting there with a friend were approached by any of the girls I talked too.

So like DanRx says it's best to fly solo.

If your reasonably attractive, can look a girl in the eye when you talk to her, are able to hold a conversation, and just don't expect anything it's a good place to just socialize. Just my humble opinion.
