how much should i expect to pay repair on cracked head. how much for just blown gasket.. how much for a reconditioned head. thanks

blown head gaskets suck there are a few recalls... try to pay nothing.

If you have an outback or something... head gasket jobs can cost $12-1400 at a shop. If you still have a warranty remaining hopefully it will be free.
If your car is older which I am assuming, it would probably be cheaper to do it yourself.. I blew a head gasket on my 87 GL and replaced pretty much everything (seals gaskets and such) for a couple hundred (that included the clutch too!) A shop would probably have charged 1500-2000 for what I did. Maybe find someone who knows subarus (a fellow board member) who would fix it cheap. If you were in Portland I'd do it for a reasonable cost. |
