Thumbs up Cobb AP Stage 2.5 installed

Plucked down the dough and wanted to get it over with - I jumped from Stg. 1 to 2.5 because I knew Stg. 2 wouldn't be enough.

Stg 2.5 mods: VF34, walbro pump, STi injectors, PDE U/P, Helix D/P, Greddy EVO2 exhaust.

Initial impression: Power delivery is slower, as expected, down below 3k. For a brief moment I thought I was back to bone stock again save for the gurgle of the EVO2 exhaust.

Power comes on noticeably at 3500, and at 4000 I believe the turbo is fully spooled (don't have any gauges so I don't know - that's coming) and my head is pushed back. The delivery is smooth all the way to redline though I can feel it peak around high 5k, but it's not a constipated feeling like stock or even Stg 1.

Overall I'm very happy with the car and hopefully I won't upgrade it again...lol or else I might as well not save a dime for my son's college tuition

The car is completely catless, and now I know what people meant by the burning smell. It's kinda unpleasant, so I may think about installing some kind of aftermarket cat (Random Technology?) on the Helix D/P.

I'll let the car learn its way with the new setup, and see how it goes.

But isn't that from the oils (preservetive) burning out of the dp that was protecting it from rust? I know it'll still have some smell but a friends took 4 days to get normal from the burning of the oil.

The burning I smelled with my helix dp was the a/c drain hose melting. After it burned back about 1/4" from the dp the smell got very rare. So my drain hose got another hole in it, but that's what it's for anyway!

Does anyone know if it's normal for it to fully spool by 4k? I thought it would be earlier than that...

VF34 should spool quicker then the VF30 because it has a better bearing design

You are a brave man putting in an aftermarket turbo with no boost gauge (a requirement IMHO). True, the AP gives live boost readings, but it's not the easiest thing to read while driving WOT. My boost gauge was the only way I could tell that I was overboosting due to the VF34 restrictor.

Get a quality boost gauge mounted on the dash or steering column and I'm sure you'll find that you are getting full boost way before 4K RPM.

This is the first I'm hearing of this. I'm not saying you're wrong... I'm just surprised I've never heard of it before. Can anybody else confirm?

Usually cats do have a smell to them, so I will agree with his statement.

Helix DP w/highflow cat, three weeks of stop & go traffic; after the drain hose melted I haven't smelled anything unusual.
