Ok this past week has been hell trying to finish out my Ver 7 swap into my 94 STi. While doing some research and thinking about different upgrade paths that may come I decided to swap out my stock head gaskets with some Power Enterprise ones. Curiously I measured the thickness of the stock ones with a micrometer. To my suprise the 1.2~1.4 that most of my books state was far off as the micrometer measured them at 1.0 even. Do any of you think this could be because they are used or does Subaru really only use 1.0mm thick ones for stock and how thick can I go if I am upgrading the turbo without being detrimental to the engine??

A stock head gasket is "crushed" upon instalation. That is why your used one is thinner, also, that is why it is not re-usable.

Thats what I was thinking uber but I did have a set of 2.1mm but decided to sell them and go with 1.6mm for now. I am curious at what thickness would it hurt more than help.

I guess it would depend on what CR you were looking for, and what your valve clearance has to be? I'm new to the turbo scene, as I don't even have one yet, but I've done a fair bit of n/a non-subaru engine work.
