Default freshly painted hood doesn't match too well

some walked across my hood a few weeks ago and i had to get a new hood on my car. anyways, i picked it up on wednesday and it looked great in sun light. that night, i went back up to school and looked at it under the big lights in the parking lot and i can tell the difference between the hood and the bumper/quarter panels. the hood is alot deeper red than the rest of the car. it's also full of swirl marks and lights scratches. they didn't blend the hood in with the rest of that car, all they did was repaint the scoop to match. This was all paid for by my insurence. am i just being paranoid? it really bugs me knowing that my brand new cars paint doens't match anymore. i almost want to put the dented hood back on, seeing that it wasn't that bad. what do you guys think i should do?

Take it to the shop and show them your problem.
If the insurance paid for it then their work is guaranteed and they just have to fix it.
It is that simple.

that's why new body pieces should be BLENDED into the rest of the car to match the older paint...

i'd talk to the ins. company and see if they can blend the paintwork for you.

Just trade it in on a new one, that's what I did. I had a PSM 04 wagon that got hit. The paint was blended, but i really didn't like the match, so I traded it on a 05 sedan. Well, my 05 sedan with 1800 miles just got hit as well. D'Oh! I'll be talking to my Subaru salesman about another trade-in as soon as I get it back from the shop. It's only cosmetic, but there's just no substitute for the factory color match.

It seems like you may be eating a lot of depreciation there... but if it works for you...

I agree with you though on factory paint - it's tough to ever get it matched again unless you get a whole new paint job.

Sounds like they just painted the hood, they should have blended it all together, when my Forester got hit, they ended up repainting the entire front end and drivers side to match, it's not easy to get something to match painting it off the car.

bring it back and tell them to make it right; that's what they were paid to do. it's a hassle but if you are like me that imperfection is the ONLY thing you will see on that car!!

I've got the same problem. My car got rear ended and the read fenders, trunk, wing, bumper...all that's a different silver per say than the rest of the car. It looks great dead on, but because of the paint's age on the rest of the car, from an angle, you can see a lot of difference. I tried to get it fixed, but the body shop said they couldn't do anything about it and my insurance company took their word for it and wouldn't do anything further

Edit: I'm thinking about sanding it down and priming the whole car and then having the silver and clear resprayed by someone, but I'm not sure that I want to spend the money cause I'm counting on getting a new 2.5RS within a year.

Go back to the shop and ask them to make it right. Being an insurance job it should be guaranteed. A few of my friends has had this happen to them too and got it fixed.

New paint should NOT have fine swirls in it, I have a feeling that the shop you took it to was not the "best in town", but too late now...

After they paint the car they need to wet-sand it and buff it to get the shine. It looks like they didn't take their time. Furthermore, as it has been stated before, you need to blend the new part into the original parts, this means that everything "touching" the hood will need to be repainted/blended. If done correctly it should be completely invisiable regardless of the car's age. (My 12 year old corolla was rear ended and they repainted the back, perfect match even under halogen lights. My brand new matrix had a fender repainted and they managed a perfect match too. luckly the subaru did not require a repaint yet.)

Well after being out of the country for a few days i made it back to the garage to talk to them about the hood. What the owner told me was there is nothing he can do about the color matching under halogen lights. He said that even if i found another stock hood in the right color that it wouldn't match. He also said that he can't get the SRR paint from subaru. i thought that you could get paint? so now i don't know what to do. he's not going to do anything about the color and he doesn't even want to try to blend it in. The only thing he's doing for me is taking the car in tomorrow and removing the swirl marks and fine scratches for me. i guess i'll wait till spring when i have the money and have the front repainted, besides, the bumper needs it all ready.

i must be pretty lucky, had to replace an 03 sedona red pearl hood. the painter was able to match it pretty closely on a 1.5 year old vehicle. the paint matched perfectly and the painter didn't have to blend the side panels though he insisted it was needed.

the body shop should have a color match system where they can get the color code and get a close match.

I havent seen your car, but instead of blending, can you just detail the rest of the car? a good paint cleaner, polish, wax. Maybe the rest of the hood looks like new, but the rest of the car needs some attention
