Ripped off by NYFD NASIOC member Aspen04WRX?!

I'm posting in this forum to see if any of you can help us out. This guy had a thread in the private for sale classifieds ( here's the thread ) His name is Chris Tehan from Smithtown NY and he won't return any PMs, emails, and we have gotten one of his phone #s but he doesn't answer or return our calls. He has sold some things locally but he has not shipped anything that he owes to people that sent him money orders. I found out that he sold my I/C hoses to someone locally after I sent him the money order and he also took a money order from someone else who thought they were getting the I/C hoses. He told two people that bought from him locally that he was a NYFD fireman ! One of them said they saw his badge. I don't know what's going on but I was hoping that someone in this forum either knows some NYFD firefighters who know this guy and could find out what this guys deal is and why he's dragging their ultra respectable name through the mud, or if you guys could get together and help all of us out by paying this guy a visit and pointing him in the direction of the nearest Post Office! I don't know what's worse, if this guy really is a fireman, or if he's just posing as one and disrespecting them by dragging their name through the mud!

I sent a USPS money order certified mail which he received over a week ago and he hasnt responded at all to any of our requests.If this happened to you wouldnt you be PISSED and want anyones help.Since we are not on the east coast can anyone get any info that could help US to either get our items or our money back.Thanks in advance.

I actually spoke to his wife right now on the phone.She said he has been working alot of OT and hasnt had a chance to send out any items yet.they only have one car and he takes it otherwise she would be sending the stuff herself.She did say she mailed your payment back today for the i/c hoses so keep an eye out for it.

I just got a email from him. He said my money order is on it's way. I made sure to let him know that everyone else still needs their stuff before we can clear this up. I'll be sure to post if/when it shows up.

Is it just me or does it seem like every time someone gets scammed, the wife is thrown into the mix as soon as the deal gets fishy?
I swear if I ever buy something from a member and I hear one thing about his wife I'm cancelling my transfer within a minute.

Not totally worked out yet (no money = problem ..... money = no problem) especially for everyone else but thanks. BTW the email wasn't from him, I guess his wife is trying to clear some of this up since he is working so much ot.

Yeah, I know! I'm not very superstitious, but I think that if I was a scammer I would be scared of bad luck using the excuse of friend/family member death. I guess I don't think like a scammer though

I've only purchased something from a fellow NASIOC once (approx. $200), and it all worked out pretty well. There was no receipt or neutral website to complete the transaction, but just only our email exchanges and our word.

I was thinking "what if" that person never sends the product? What would I do in short of threatening to hunt them down? But then I thought "what if" that person had a family emergency, or is on vacation? Maybe that's when one would need to give them a little more time?? But you would think they would at least shoot you a quick one sentence email letting you know the status regardless of their own personal situation, right? I dunno.. I just read another read where some guy got bashed (close to having a mob show up at his house), but it turned out he was on vacation. It just made me think twice instead of joining the mob.

my theory is to do a search on the person, and get as much info as you can before you agree to anything.

Its kind of a mutual respect thing. If you are going on vacation, atleast let the people know. Everytime I have bought something it has been in person, and very straight forward. They have let me know their schedual and met me at their houses. The one time I paypal'd and got something in the mail, it came the next day after it was shipped. I also had a tracking number within a half hour of when it was sent.
I have seen this post up for atleast a week in the for sale forum, and I think these guys deserve an explanation. If I purchased something from someone and didnt hear from them for a week, I would be very skeptical as well as concerned. How long does it take to sit down and write a PM "been busy, sending stuff next week". If you cant hold up your side of the bargain, you just shouldnt be selling stuff. And if you arent taking care of things, you will soon be known as a scammer or just a bad seller.

No reason to really try to defend these people...
