Tom, do you have any proof of your allegations against JJ's competetor, Chad? "Screwed" is fighting words if he hears about this.

JJ's car has stock suspension and he only ran as fast as the STS guys, despite Kumho race tires, because of that. Until he get's a real suspension, he won't beat Chad. JJ's stock RS rolls too much and bounces around a bit more than it should, and I've told him that.

I say this from knowing what his car rides and accelerates like, since I drove Chad's car in the fun runs after the event. Being unfamiliar with his car, it took me three runs to go 1/2 second faster than Chad's best race time. Chad finally managed to beat my time in his car by 1/2 second on his 3rd fun run, being totally familiar with his own car. If I had 7 runs in his car like he did, maybe I'd keep up, but the point is that Chad is an EXCELLENT driver. In JJ's car Chad might still beat him, although JJ is improving tremendously in the past year. I am very impressed with what JJ has done with what he has to work with. I loved my stock suspension till I tried better struts and springs. JJ will learn that soon too.

Anyways, while driving Chad's car, I can say it has no more power, maybe less, than JJ's. The motor was all done making power at 5,500 rpm, and JJ's pulls to redline. But, Chad's STI springs and tires make a huge difference in the handling, and at 65mph entering the slalom that is important. (of course my turbo was doing rev limiter in third at 75mph by the start of both slaloms). Chad's car still has less grip than my Hoosier race tires give me.

NOTE: Chads ABS is broken, and I don't know if that is "cheating" but I felt that it made running a fast time harder, since there were two places where it helped to be on the ABS going through the first cone of each slalom, while turning without breaking traction...

Larry

[edit - fix 1.2 second to be 1/2 second]

And that's the real deal. My stock suspension is shot, kaput, gone. I have a new one on order, I just don't know where the heck it is yet (I'm calling on it today). Hopefully with that things will improve. Sunday was the first time I felt that I really had the car near or at the limit (race tires were squeeling and squaling), and I still lost by about 4 seconds! The differential on Saturday was less than two, and the car wasn't on the ragged edge. Saturday was a horsepower course, and Sunday happened to be a extreme handling course. If you loved slaloms and hanging the ass out then Sunday was the course for you. However, with my stock suspension the car couldn't go as I wanted, but I tried my best anyway and even though I lost, I feel good knowing I drove it to what I sincerely felt to be the limit. Chad is a great driver and a great competitor and his supension is tighter because it doesn't have as many autox's on it. That said, Chad is not a cheater even though he does have those japanese tires (which have alot more tread than my Kumho's, BTW and don't stick nearly as well).

OK, now it's time for my lame attempt at humor:

SIGNS YOUR STOCK SUSPENSION IS TOO SOFT:

1. When your car flies by the corner stations they ask what kind of Caddilac is that?

2. When even 47 PSI in front and 44 in rear your racetires still roll onto side wall.

3. When the ride in my car is nearly as "nice" as my parent's new Lexus and my grandpa's Oldsmobile.

4. When you can tip a cone over just by body lean- even though your 12 inches away from it!

OK, I'll stop I know they suck. The fact is that the only thing that screwed me was stock suspension.

Who said anything about Chad? I never said he cheated. I don't doubt his skill or the legality of his setup at all.

Confused,
Tom

Tom Sez,

"...except that JJ got screwed again by a cheater... "

If you don't explain better than that the first time, you'll get the responses you got.

Just other's know, Chad is the only other driver in JJ's class STR 'street touring race tires'

He has been accused of cheating in STS in the past, by running his Jap spec treaded non DOT tires.
