Default sti lights question

I have been wondering for the longest time... why sti lights are soo expensive. I can understand the price if they are hard to come by and have to be imported and the demand drives up the price.
If that is the case, then why doesnt another lights manufacture make it for less? Im sure that if they were priced at 300-500 they would be able to make a quality piece that many bug-eye wrx owners would buy.
Other cars have jdm projector lights for far less then wrx owners have to pay. Am I missing something? Or am I over estimating the demand for these lights? because when they go on sale used on forums they sell almost the same day?! Could someone please explain?

I'm sure the price adds up when you figure in that they're HID and have a motor mounted inside to move the beams up or down. Cause you're not just paying for the lights when you buy them. You're getting the HID, housing, mounts, motor. So it's typically expensive stuff.

Not all the STI lights are HID though. Even just the regular projection units start at around $700.

yup. I know that even the rsx jdm projectors are at most 500. And the wrx sti ones are still starting at 700. Thats 200 more than that price justifies. I have no idea why a light company hasnt made a replica, or thier own version of it.

My guess is the same reasons Macs cost more than PC(no flaming just my example cuz i use macs) and the software is the same.. It's all about potential market share...compared to overhead cost of manufacturing. Same reason Honda parts are cheaper than Subaru parts. there is already a market there to support the product. the subaru market is much smaller than the honda market(in terms of aftermarket hop ups and addons.) so a maker of RSX projectors may spend the same amount of $$ making their product as it takes to make STI projectors.. the overall market for all subaru parts is much smaller than the overall market for honda parts. the cost to make this part is offset by the sales of the other parts. not just that, but there are more part makers for honda than subaru. at least more of varying quality. competition will bring down price. just look in your issue of superstreet. you'll see.

There aren't too many makers of STi projectors.. just Subaru.. so they've got the market cornered. but of course being privieged with being able to put "JDM STI Projector Headlights" on your product may also justify the cost. meaning even if someone starts making identical replica STI projectors with or without HID and sells them for 5oo bones.. I still dont's see any price reduction on those lights. Just look at the replica body parts... they arent causing the authentic price reduction.. the makers are not concerned of losing your business.. they will get it from someone else who wants "Authentic" "JDM" parts.

Yeah.. I feel ya.. I can't afford HID projectors for my bugeyes either..;D good luck.. if you find them way cheap.. man.. let me know.. I want some too
