Question Weapon R intake...opinions?

I am considering getting an intake for my MY99 Impreza, and have heard about all the problems with the MAF and such. Alot of people here in I-Club like the Ganzflow intake, but I haven't heard too much about the Weapon R intake. Will it cause problems with the MAF? How is it different than the Ganzflow?

If you mount it correctly you should have no problems.

Matt,

I just went back a few days on the forum and found a thread on intakes (guess I didn't see it earlier ). Thanks for the reply. Do you know if Larry Ganz is going to create a kit for MY99's anytime soon? I think that I'm leaning towards his product so far....

I just got an email from Cobb tuning and they said the power packs for the MY99 should be released in the next month or two. I am debating on whether or not to hold out on my upgrades.

Soob,
I have a weapon R on my 99....
My MAF is solidly mounted so there's no problems.....
I'm (SATISFIED) with it....it sounds good but honestly I'm waiting for the Cobb or Ganz...as soon as there out I'm gonna jump on it.
Just waiting to see which is better. The New MAF Cobbs working on should be a sigh of relief for alot of us...

I have the Weapon R on my '01 RS and I really like it. It's much louder and it changed the note of the exhaust at WOT as well.

There was some gain in high end, but nothing to write home about. I would expect to see better gains if I had an exhaust and headers to back it up

WHy do you guys hate the Weapon R intake so much? There really can't be that much of a difference in the intakes, after all, the enging can only suck in so much air (it's not like we're forcing air in here).

Question

how many of you that hate the weapon r - ran the weapon r???

hmmmmmmmm?

i ran it and never ever had an issue.

yes you lose low end... most all intakes do that...

yes you have to clean the foam filter often...

um... and yes technically you are suckin in warm air...

any open end intake will do that...

car sounded great
increase feel at mid to high end
so what's the issue here???

i think it's a matter of choice. up to you.

j.

i have the Weapon-R Hyper. it's ok, i guess...adds about 4HP
my car atleast SOUNDS fast cuz it is one loud intake!
but i have already blown one MAF from it. i then made a secure mounting bracket for it. so far so good.
but when ganz or COBB finishes their 99 intakes, i will be getting one of those!!! larry ganz gave me some suggestions for a custom 99 intake similar to one that he is developing but i'm so lazy i'll just wait for the finished product

Thanks for all the opinions so far guys. I got an email from Cobb tuning today also and Josh said that they should be coming out with an intake in a couple of months or so. I guess they're having problems with their supplier in putting together in the kits.

Well, so far I'm starting to lean towards either the Cobb or the Ganzflow, whichever comes out first Actually, it might come in the same time I install my Stromung exhaust!

Well I've worked on and i am around two cars that have them is that enough knowledge about them to talk about them?
Its not a flame but I find your comment very hipocritical. I've seen you put your 2 cents in on things which you've had no 1st hand knowledge on or with.

The filter on a Weapon R filter is garbage that falls apart much too quickly under normal usage. Now put a HKS 'shoom or Apex "Air Attack" filter, the intake then becomes a half-way decent one.
Cobb's or the GAnz will keep the low which the WeaponR loses. "and that's the Bottom line"

So you lost low end with your weapon-r? I didnt lose anything with my ganzflow...maybe thats why people hate the weapon-r so much .

Lightbulb

the stock air system allows the air to flow in from outside and acts like a silencer...

ganz flow...
is very similar to the stock set up, just w/out the extra bits for the 'silencing' part... and thus, it retains the low end..

the weapon-r, rallispec, etc.

are open air intakes which are suckin in engine air more or less...
they dont utilize the stock filtration system
and cause your low end to drop off...

i am not sure about cobb... but definately ganz flow does not do this...

but still... that doesnt mean the weapon r is junk.
you just need to know what your car is going to do when you put it on. yes the filer needs attention, or it will get filthy dirty... you have to take care of it, or change it to a K&N cone....

anyway... nuff said on this for me anyway...
just telling you my experiences...

btw...i now have a ganz flow... not a weapon r... but havent had problems w/either of em.

I just went from a ganzflow to a cobb CAI last night. Although I really liked the ganzflow, the cobb definently feels more powerful. Also it is A LOT LOUDER, if you are into the sound. The ganzflow is great for the money, but the Cobb is definently the better intake.
