Default im stumped....

Can anyone help me out?

The water at the beach on the lakefront contains 6.9 parts per billion of E. Coli. While swimming, you swallow 1.0 liter of this water. HOw many grams of this bacteria did you swallow? (Density of water is 1.053 g/cm3 (cubed)).

parts per billion is really not a large enough unit of measure to equate. All it is basically saying is that for every billion molecules of water there are 6.9 corresponding E. coli....

I guess you could weigh the water, and then compute 6.9 billions of the wieght

What you should really be worried about is what is an acceptable human exposure level.

You'd need to know what the density of e.coli was.

you need to know what density of Ecoli is safe. I hear Ecoli is in everything anyways, but its just not enough to hurt you.

density * volume gives you mass of water. Divide by the concentration of 6.9/billion to get the proportion of the mass that is E-Coli. Check for dimensional homogeneity and voila.

drinking water is ok when its 5 ppm I think..... maybe its ppb

Either way a litre of the stuff isn't going to kill you.

But if it does, dibs on the powertrain.

(6.9/1,000,000,000) * 1053 = not a great deal
