Default Want to do something nice for my mom

Ever since I put a deposit on my townhouse, my mom's been going crazy and thinks she's Mother Teresa and I'm a small starving child or something. So far she's paid for my moving truck, bought me a nice set of dishes as an "early Christmas present", bought me a set of bakeware, deposited money in my checking account without me knowing to cover my deposits for electricity/gas, and just came home with a bunch of little stuff from Target, Costco, and some clothes I needed and said it was a "moving present". She's also letting me take a lot of furniture that's taking up space and spare linens and silverware and stuff without asking for a penny. She'll also be helping me move for 2 days. On top of all this, she paid to have my transmission fixed since I didn't have enough money and needed a car badly. She's done all of this even when I've told her she doesn't have to, and I'd rather she didn't since it makes me feel like a total leech, but she won't listen to me and just does it anyway. Don't get me wrong, I'm so appreciative of her help and know that I'm in no position to really argue with her and I'll take what I can get, but even my friends are beginning to call me spoiled and "mommy's girl".

I want to do something really nice for her to say thank you ( along with a sincere, heartfelt "thank you, mom") and don't want to do the ordinary buy-flowers-and-take-her-to-lunch thing I usually do. Any suggestions? I was thinking of getting her a certificate for a massage or pedicure or something, but I want to see if I can think of something creative. Please help!

I was in a similar situation about four months ago; the first thing I did was sit down an write my mom a letter thanking for her and my dad for their generosity and then I took my mom on vacation for her birthday.

ROFLMAO!!!!

I think the suggestion of taking her on vacation might be a bit out of Awdity's price range. The massage is a cool idea, but I know where you're coming from where you're looking for something creative. One thing I did for mom a few years ago was take a picture that meant a LOT to her and had it restored and framed. She cried. It was awesome. Don't know if that would help you at all.

But, based on what you've said, I think you might need to do something really cheap but meaningful. Not because "you can't afford it" but because your mom already perceives that you can't afford anything and she might either be upset, offended, or burdensome (financially) if you get her something "nice." Maybe Incorporeal can help you .... have him help you plan a really nice dinner that you cook for your dear mother.

We are closing on our house on my mothers birthday. She is doing the same things your mother is. We are very appreciative of it, but rather confused that she thinks me moving out IS her b-day present

Ben, I mean this is the most sincere way ... I already appreciate that you live in a different state, and if you moved FURTHER away ... I'd be appreciative too!
