Question Identifying a turbo-equipped car

Are there any ways to identify a turbo-equipped GL or Loyale without looking under the hood? I'm looking at a lot of ads on websites where the sellers themselves may not even know what they have.

If you are talking about an 85+ EA82 car, there are a couple of ways.

1) If its a GL-10, or has GL-10 badges, chances are, its a turbo.. This is not a guarantee since there are also NA GL-10s, but the odds are in your favor.
2)Every EA82 turbo car I have had says TURBO on the rear doors and tailgate(I have had a bunch of wagons..no sedans or coupes for me )
3)If its a wagon with a D/R 5 speed, 99% chance it is NOT a turbo.
4) Full time 4WD 5 speed in my experience, always = turbo.

Often, if I run across one on ebay or something I will request underhood pics.. sometimes I get em, sometimes not

Added note.. Loyale only came turbo in 1990.. so if it is a 91-94, no turbo

Edit.. Have heard rumors of a very few 91 loyale turbos.. never actually seen one.. so that cuts at least a couple years off your search.

Also... push button 4WD (and not a DL) = Turbo.

On Loyales I guess... 90+

I challenge you to find a NA single range 4WD 85-89 GL or GL-10 that came that way stock.

They SHOULD all be dual range.

Nope.. no pushbuttons with difflock.. The pushbutton 4WDs go from FWD to 'Locked' 4WD as there is no center diff to lock.

we see 4wd autos in na cars, as well as pushbutton 5spds in DL and loyale.

one obvious external clue to turbo is REAR DISC BRAKES

My 92 Loyale lacked the turbo. 0-60 in 45 seconds with 90hp.
