I am hoping to make it. I should have my race tires by then. I also hope to have the damage inflicted upon my car by the ancient American who decided to plow into the paasenger side of my car while pulling out of a driveway. If I get my monetary compesation in time, count me in for sure. I've never run Buttonwillow, and I am looking forward to it.
Good luck to all, and take it easy out there!

Hello,

I dunno Sev, I'm often oblivious You might have seen me walking or driving the Geo, but not the Scooby. She's out of order I really hope to have the scooby together in time for Buttonwillow. We'll see. An engine swap is bound to create some mysterious problems that take forever to diagnose

I'm so torn about this ... would be a hell of a lot of fun, but I know too many people who wrecked at events like these. Plus we are going to be a big group of beginners on the track at the same time ... not that folks here aren't capable drivers, but something to consider.

Maybe I'll come watch and heckle. :P

Hello,

Joe, don't scare people like that. Open Track is a very safe group to run with. They also segregate people and cars by power and skills. More importantly, they limit the number of attendees so that you do not have a crowded track. Having recently run at thunderhill in both a high traffic and low traffic situation, I can tell you that the low traffic setup is very safe (I hated the high traffic situation since I was constantly stuck behind poor turning drivers who blew me away on the front straight - the only place passing was allowed).

Anyway, the main goal of the event is a safe place to have a blast in your car. Anyone who is acting in an unsafe manner will be ejected by OT. And I would love to be the rat who draws their attention to someone who's acting stupid. Drive within your ability and be aware of your surroundings.

It's not that dangerous and unlike Joe, I know many many many people who constantly race at track events and none of them have had any sort of incident...

Joel alot of So cal members know about when Herbie (IIRC) had his car on it's side at the track so that is just some of us erring on the side of caution as who would want to wreck their car out in the middle of the desert with no real ride home. The only thing holding me back is I would prefer to have race tires so I don't kill my street tires.

Joel, don't you hate it when those idiots don't wave you buy in the straights? I've run with the Shelby club before, and it is soooo frustrating to see some backmarker in a nice Viper hold you up in every corner, just to leave you like you are parked in the straights. After the second time getting stuck behind him, I just went 50 down the straight, and I still caught him in turn 4 (Streets of Willow)!

Funny thing is, that this situation is CLEARLY described in driver's meetings, and yet alot of drivers still don't yield in the straights. I once wanted to run amok upon an idividual in a Corvette who got quite a kick out of "blocking" me. I cooled off, and explained to the event coordinator my beef with the 'Vette driver.

He then talked to the guy, going over track etiquette once again. Then the next run, the guy crashed hard comig out of turn one (streets of Willow again BTW). He was pushing himself trying to show everyone he was fast, when he should have atayed within in his limits, and waved myself and the mean Datsun 510 I just waved by pass.

The only group I've experienced that has been almost perfect has been the Porsche owners club. Although most of those guys aren't holding people up due to their quick lap times, great track manners aside. Later, and take it easy! Arik

Hello,

Well, it's true, Mike H. did flip his car. But he explained it as somewhat of a freak accident and it was one of the only times that such an accident took place. Lots of folks said they had never seen something like that. So I understand the trepidation, but really, compared to the number of accidents on the street even acounting for the time difference, the track is a much safer place to drive.

One last thought on what Arik said. I talked with one driver who was a total prick about passing and he told me something like "I was on about 1/4 throttle and I waited the whole straight for you to pass" I told him "well, coming out of the last turn, I was partially passed you. From that point on, you could have looked back to see that I was in the passing position, but falling back." He said "well, I don't want you to slow 'me' down."

Needless to say, I walked off before blowing my top at him - of all the people I passed, not one got stuck behind me and not one caught up to me on the next straight. Sigh.
