Default 1st and 2nd gear bucking / clutch slip?

Now just to clarify, like the thread title states, I'm curious on 1st and 2nd gear bucking / possible clutch slip? Every once and a while, maybe once or twice a month tops, the car will get this violent bucking going on ... Tends to only be at about 3/4 to WOT in first or second gear ... I know how to drive a stick, it's not a low speed issue that I haven't gotten the car going and I'm bogging it ... This is really when the car is going well, and I get on the throttle ... Maybe 3k-4k and nail it ... Never felt anything like this before ... Is it possible that the clutch is slipping? Seems to be the only thing that makes sense to me ... It's a MY04' WRX and I've only got about 4k on the clock so far ... It's just not right ... Any thoughts or comments would be greatly appreciated ... TIA

If it was clutch slip, I don't think you would get bucking, it would be smooth between the slip and catch on the flywheel, my experience. I think once in awhile WRX's can get funky based on boost and throttle changes. Not anything serious to worry about.

Mine does it from time to time too..... Still takes off pretty well, just kinda jerks along..

Like as if I were driving over some washed out dirt road. But as soon as I shift, it disapears.

I dont think it is anything to worry about though

yep happened to mine too, and i was all worried too. I think it's just all that power going to the awd system. do a search on bucking or thumping and u'll see plenty of threads that talk about this.

Seems like there was another thread about this in another forum. Someone pointed out it was likely the way the ECU handles closing off the throttle or leaving it barely open, depending on what you are doing.

This is obviously most noticeable to everyone at lower speeds with almost no throttle....might be the same issue if you are slowing down when it happens from 3/4 throttle.
