Anyone here with an early 90's Legacy Turbo
So, I've recently begun the hunt for an early 90's Legacy turbo sedan. And a couple questions have popped up:
1) Is there anything I should look out for on this car related to the powertrain? IE Weak block, leaking oil etc.
2) Has anyone done any mods on this car. The 180 ft-lbs of torque sounds good. But the 160 HP seems a bit underwhelming. What can be done to improve this situation?

I don't know much about the US spec Legacy Turbo. What I can tell you is that, on my '93 UK Legacy turbo the standard power was quoted as 197bhp.
Back in the UK there is little in the way of tuning bits for the Legacy Turbo. What you can get is:-
K&N Panel Filter (Same # as current Impreza WRX I believe).
I'm sure I've seen an intake kit for it somewhere.
Stainless Cat-Back exhaust.
Superchips does a kit for the Legacy T.
Brakes are pretty much as the Impreza T so those bits should work.
Wheels as per the Impreza.
A few different makes of lowering springs.
Uprated struts not so easy to get a hold of, but possible none the less.
As I say, I'm not sure what the differences are between the US and UK cars but I'm sure some of the bits will work.

Mike, for info on 91-94 US spec Legacy Turbo's, check out The BC-BF Legacy Works as well as Turbo-Centric
The BC BF Legacy Works is a great site and mailing list for all first gen Legacys including a few overseas 2.0 Legacy Turbos(explains some of the differences between the two). And Turbo-Centric is DAC's site(fellow i-clubber) which has some excellent info concerning the performance side of the Legacy Turbos and follows along with the build-up of Dave's Turbo Wagon.

I ran for for a few years with a few mods done. See this post for some more info. Hope this helps some.

I have a '94 2.2t engine in my '95 Imprezza with a Air to water IC, exhaust, cold air intake, fuel control and high vol. pump, JC Sports TC2 chip,
12lb chromoly flywheel hd clutch, EBC set at 17lbs
underdrive pulleys and would estimate it at about 275hp it has not been on a dyno so this is calculated hp.
