Default Buying a Baja.

Wife said OK to the Baja Turbo (Sportshift), getting rid of the dying Jeep.

So it looks like I'm staying in the Subaru fold... It's gotta be an Automatic becuase the wife can't drive a 5 speed.

Maybe do a few things to it... dunno what yet...since it's going to be my daily driver.

It matters what the wife says on this one. She can't drive a stick... knee problems.

She has to drive it... that's the point. She drives it to take her horse poop to an natural agricultural farm a few towns over.... and will have it in the winter where I get the Tahoe when it snows.

tell her because of the fact that the baja incorporates the STi engine, subaru does not make it in automatic trim and that she will just have to adjust.

automatics cannot handle the power of the STi engine

Yes Get one.....

I'm not sure if the auto is the right way to go.. but you should have her test drive the stick it's a light clutch ...

Anyways they are giving 1000 rebate and I got a killer deal on a sport that i picked up on friday 21,900 out the door with flaps and bed ext.

PS I feel your pain the Baja is replacing my 10 year old jeep..

I have the sport shift and test drove the 5mt and I didn't knotice any differance of power between the both. Being able to shift the 4EAT just like a MT makes it just as good im my book. My wife can't drive a stick as well, but that isn't why we got the sport shift. I feel that I have just as mutch control as the 5mt's do and I don't have to use the clutch. In fact, I did some research on the 4EAT and I don't remember where it is, but it is the closest thing to the rally transmition that you can get w/out spending lots of $$.

One other thing the 4EAT has going for it... 45/55 power distribution vs 50/50.

Actually it is not only 45/55 split in the sport shift model. It has VTD (variabel Toqure distribution). So it will activlly split the power where it is needed most. At least that I how it was explained to me.

what is the advantage of this?

the 5sp is still faster in the 1/4 mile.

the auto is a 7 second 0-60 whereas the 5sp can get into the 5 second range with an aggressive launch.

It gives it a more car-like, smooth handling, and then will shift the power where necessary, depending on the conditions.

Yes, but i don't think he's joining our family to try out for the next Fast & Furious dud to hit your local screens. He'd be picking up something else if he was buying a car with its out of the lot 1/4 mile capabilities as his main concern.

You should be getting the hard cover standard, KC; save you some shovelling this winter.

I like quick. I don't need to be FAST (unless it's a timed event around cones).

I just picked my 8 up last night... and looking at the Columbus weekend sales for the Baja this weekend.

Work over those salesmen KC, dont let them get away with anything.

I hate the sportshift. Its too slow to shift, not very sporty. And when it does shift, its not really a shift, its more like a blend into the next gear. I leave it in "D" and thats fine with me. The sportshift is a novelty that doesn't really do it for me. The dog-o-matic Baja is a very comfy car, she'll like it tons better than the Jeep.

Congrats on the 8 KC.

Found a BajaT in the area for $22,200

Our local daeler doesn't have a Turbo on the lot, and I highly doubt they're going to swap with someone for that price.

Consider it a good thing she doesn't want a 5 speed turbo. The one Anchor got for us came from N.H. It was one of 4 in all the 63 some odd dealers in N.E.

Damn auto lovers

Going to make the move this week. I really wanted to work with my local dealer, but they have no bargaining position to get it from another dealer. It's a losing money issue with them... which sucks, because I really would like to do business with them.
