Default new intake and check engine light

hey guys im new to the site and just wanting some advice. i have an 03 legacy L and i just installed an injen cold air intake. the website i bought it from originally said it was for my year/model and also the 00-01 impreza. then later told me that injen changed the specs and now it is for the impreza only and told me that as long as my engine looked like the one shown in the picture they sent me it should work. so i got it and installed it and when i took off the stock intake i removed two hoses. i put the injen one on and replaced the two hoses with the ones provided in the kit but there is another nipple on the intake for another hose. there is no other hose coming from the engine anywhere to put on here. also the check engine light is on. i called subaru but they said it would cost $100 to check it and i dont wanna spend the money if anyone can help me out with this one

heres where i bought it and the hose that is not connected on mine is, going left to right, the second one (right under the logo)

Well, I'm pretty sure the CEL is because of the hose not being hooked up, but if you go to Pep Boys/Schucks/Knecht's/Autozone/whatever is in your area, they should pull the code for you for free. They do around here at least. There is probably some sort of "vacuum" issue with the hose not being connected. It may be a MAP vs. MAF issue also, but I'm don't remember which cars have what.

I have an 02 GT so the engine lay out sould be the same. You should have 2 breather hoses to hook up. One from each side of the block. From your post I can not tell if you have 3 "ports" on the new CAI or 2. If it is 3 then you are going to be 1 hose short as you stated. I think you have the wrong part if that is the case If so you can either take it off and see if they will replace it with the proper part or for a small amount of money you can find a metal fab shop that will chop off the nipple and weld the hole closed.

In the mean time I would not run it like that as you are sucking in air with out running it through the filter, bad idea. Go get the code pulled and see what it is but I am also guessing it is a vacuum issue. To test you can alway plug the hole with some tape, disconnect the battery for 10 min or so to clear the CEL and try again. Once again the tape is just a trouble shooting step, do not run it like this since a peice of tape in your TB is even worse than some unfiltered air.

Good luck
