I assume this is by year sold and not model year. It would be intresting to see the sales by model year. It does seem odd that the sales are dropping off so fast from last year. Espically since the turbo model didn't really hit the market until Dec'03.
Also I just noticed, I bought mine at the highest selling month!

I am in the process of researching the breakdown of color, model year & package type. I hope to have this ready soon .
SpeedShift what cant you read or understand ? The sales are by month. The last column labeled sales per month are the 3 year total for each month. I hope this will help.

Hey, I am part of that Dec 03 chart. Okay here's the deal......
If there are 18,902 Baja's produced, then where are they?
Also, if sales are so poor, I can't tell it here. That's pretty good for a vehicle you don't advertise! And they want to quit making this vehicle? I think I work with the same people making these great decisions.

I ama former Explorer Sport Trac owner...

Since late 2000, Ford has sold about 50-60K Sport Tracs a year... with little or no advertising...

Rumour has it that it was on the chopping block due to low sales many times, but a loyal owner community (and no direct replacement at hand) keep it alive... (and may live on as a new Ranger SuperCrew once the old Ranger/Explorer platforms dies in the ever-distant future)

To have only sold 20,000 vehicles in 3 model years... well, let's just say I am grateful to FHI for continuing to build it and I feel lucky to own one... most car companies would have killed it by now... (see Pontiac Aztek)... I have heard most car companies need to move about 20,000+ a model year to keep a model viable... (some companies like Porsche and such don't count now... we're talking big manufacturers)

Of course, it helps that the old Legacy tooling is paid for and it doesn't cost incrimentally much to build the few unique parts of a Baja...

On a positive note, VW managed to keep building the Golf I (Rabbit) platform for the Cabriolet for almost 20 years ('74-'95?), and long LONG after the last Rabbit rolled off the line...

So who knows? Maybe FHI will keep with the SUT concept and move the Baja to the new Legacy platform or to the Tribeca platform... or just keep them trickling out of Indiana until the tooling wears out...(and the DOT/EPA regulations don't change )

Maybe when the Honda SUT comes out, people will decide to get the Baja instead and save some cash and keep the Baja alive. It could happen!

My dad owned a Sport Trac, and I can see why the Baja is sort of a competitor. I drove his ST a few times (before someone hit it and retired it for good). It is a similar idea (to the Baja). A small bed, 4 doors, and good ground clearance. However, the Baja rides better IMHO, it doesn't whip around as bad at high speeds (as does the ST), and it's AWD. I still can't understand why they don't advertise like they could. The world has heard of the WRX, Outback, and the new Legacy (great car!). I do hope Subaru will take this model to the next platform because it could use the 250hp engine. The towing capacity might increase, the performance would certainly increase, and maybe more people would give it a chance. This is my first new car and I am VERY pleased with my choice. In fact, this might be the start of a new relationship between myself and Subaru. LOL
