Angry Bad Service At South Coast Subaru! Do not go there!!!

You know, I've read several posts about how bad the service department's service has been. But you have to see it to believe it! I just got back from there and I almost ripped the head off of the guy who takes service orders. Here's the scenario:

Because of the bad service I've received from last oil change, the service manager gave me a complimentary oil change the next time I come back. I took that as a good gesture from the manager's part and I thanked him and believed hopefully that the service will be better next time. So I make an appointment for today to get my car serviced for oil change. I go there at the exact appointment time and tell the guy (this guy is such an a-hole and a d-head) that I'm here for an oil change and have a 1pm appointment. He tells me "ok" and starts working on his paperwork. So I'm standing there thinking he's prepping me up for my service but lo and behold! He's working on other order paper while I'm standing there! I kept my composure and waited for him. After about 5 minutes, he finally starts the paperwork. I tell him I have a free oil change. He looks up in the computer and tells me there's no note for it. So I tell him to check with the manager. He looks for him and cannot find him. I tell him to start my service since I'm on my lunch break and need to go back soon. He tell's me to sign the paper that states I would have to purchase the service for 30 bucks. I told him that I get coupons from you guys and I always get my oil change for 20bucks with coupon but I didn't bring mine since I was gonna get it for free today. He tells me He can't give me the service for that price because I don't have the coupon. I tell him, "if you look at my service record, I always pay 20bucks for an oil change. You guys send me the coupon every other months!" He flat out denies my claim and refuses to give it to me for 20bucks. By this time, I've already lost 20minutes and can't get an oil change to come back to work on time. What an a-hole! I'm furious now. I start telling him how unreasonable SOB he is...and other profanity I shouldn't have said but I think he deserves it.
The fact is that before the personnel change, this would not have been a problem. The previous guy always honored me the 20bucks deal because he knows that I get the coupon. It's not just me that get the coupon, it's everyone who goes there for service (BTW, their coupon is now 24.95 for lube job) and they know that. If I was a first time customer, I'd understand. But I wasn't. I've been going there ever since I bought my car. I did all my service work there. But not anymore! YOU GUYS SHOULD AVOID GOING TO SOUTH COAST SUBARU!!!

check the manual, but timing belt should be done at 100k on most cars, im not certain with the WRX.

Hmm . . . after all the bad talking of this place, I find it hard to fit this story into the bad-experince file. You didn't have a coupon and yet expected the same deal. You didn't make clear whether the complimentary oil change came with some sort of documentation or a coupon. Assuming you didn't, then the offer for the complimentary oil change was just that, a gesture, and without it on paper, I don't think you really had that much leverage.

Though I agree with you that your recent experience was not consistent with the ones in the past, I really don't see the wrong they did. Perhaps the thread should've expressed how they were no longer "cool" with you and got all technical and business-like on you. But I have a hard time seeing any wrong on their part.

And then for you to cuss them out? I suppose I would've been upset too at them taking care of paper work in front of my face while I, as a customer, was right there - that's just straight out neglect.

I havent seen a coupon from subaru in months. my car is old and the dealer I purchased the car from is 100 miles away maybe i just dont pay attention to them anymore. 20 bux for an oil change isnt bad.

You'd think the service guy would have jumped at selling a $20 oil change -- he'd be taking the customer for an extra nickel!

I agree with you the new service director looks like an a-hole... he smells like one too... I vote for them to let the new service director and writer go and bring back chris..... Everyone that goes there should talk to the owner and give him your opinion of where the dealership is going..... cause with that kind of service the dealership isn't going to prosper.... SCS use to be one of the best dealerships to go to since if you have mods cause they will work on your car no questions asked.... But now you have to make sure you have to hide the "air spencer" cause it wasn't a factory option and your warranty might get denied.... And also remember to bring your cupons... that's such bullcrap man the only thing left that's good at south coast is ferdie and rommel. Also the actual service techs... But they can't do their job if the service writer isn't letting them work on modded cars or what not.... we all need to ban together and write a letter to the owner and let him know he's ****in up.....

I've never had a dealer deny a coupon whether or not I had it in my hand. Ask around at almost any dealer and they will give you 10% off parts/service just for asking... I think it sucks that South Coast has changed so much, but at the same time, people need to understand the possible cosequences of their actions (ie. modding their cars).

May I recommend Anthony at Timmons Subaru. I had my 30K service done there last week. He called me up and said, "Hey, I found the 15% off coupon that must have fallen out of your pocket when you dropped the car off". Granted, I have been going to Anthony ever since he left SCS and for good reason - he is a stand up guy you can trust.

I've talked to the service manager at SCS. His name is Mike Brown. I've told him the whole story and he was very polite about the whole deal. He assured me that the service I've been rendered will not be repeated. He apologized for the inconvenience and has told me that proper actions will be taken to better serve the customer.

wrx.speed is either Mike Brown ... or the mouse in Mike Brown's pocket. He has a whopping post count of 3, with all 3 being posts defending SCS's service dept.

66666 is right: Whoever wrx.speed is, he ought to have been held back in junior high until he could write/type better than sexymama from OT.

Why would anyone sign up for the SCS meet in december with all the problems
they are having. I know everyone loves ferdie, but why support a place that
no longer seem to exhibit any customer service with regularity.
Ferdie will always go the extra mile for many customers, but what happens if
a situation arises that Ferdie cannot honor due to mike brown or owner being
a jerk head. Does that mean Ferdie is a bad guy now................NO, just means
you should'nt be supporting a poor dealership.
