Default Screwed up timing belt alignment. Need help

So, I'm posting for my friend that has a 2.2 fwd legacy. I think it's mid 90's. He had the timing belt off to be replaced and for some reason cranked the engine over. How should he get the crank and both cams re-aligned so he can put the new belt on? I think he marked the cams before he took them off but now the crank is way off so who knows.

Just realign the marks and put the belt back on. If the belts has no marks on it then you will be counting belt teeth and using a marker to set the correct alignment marks. Unfortunately, my manuals are for my00.

Do as Tim said. Just align the marks on the cam sprocket and crank gear. The crank gear mark can be a little tricky to figure out exactly where it is.

Here's pics from my legacy t-belt change. This should give him all the info he needs

Yeah, the crank gear is the problem. He didn't mark it, so we don't know where it is in relation to the cams.

It does'nt matter. Pull the plugs and turn the crank to align the marks. Then align the cams. Put the belt back on and re-do the tensioner.

Word. It is next to impossible to find - I did this on a '91 Legacy once and it was so frustration to actually find the mark!
