My car just broke down today
so it looks like I may be getting a new car since it doesn't make since to put $1900 into a 14 year old Honda Accord. I like the Baja alot but was wondering if there were any other similar cars out there with the same stats. ie towing about 1500-2000lbs, good pickup and all wheel drive. I'm lookin for a car, not truck, that's good at towing, also 4WD along with a "sporty" look would be nice. Any suggestions besides the Baja?

The Baja is a one and only as far as I can tell...
The only vehicles that come close the Baja are the few Sport Utility Trucks: Ford Explorer Sport Trac: This is a truck based SUT... probably not what you are looking for... based on a lengthened '97-'00 Explorer frame, can tow 5000#+, big 4.0L v-6, same HP and lb/ft as a Turbo Baja though, but at 15mpg... $25-$30K with Part-time 4WD... I owned one and traded it in on my new Baja... low tech, spotty quality, but strong... Honda SUT (for 2006): This a Pilot (nee Accord, need Odyssey) based SUT, with small bed with pass through... AWD, rumoured 3.5L V-6, 250hp, $30-$35K rumoured, Judge Dredd ala Honda Element styling... rumoured to tow in the 4000lb+ range or less... new tech, great quality, painful price point, big size... GMC Envoy XUV: Truck-based SUT... big... inline 6 or V-8 power... retractable roof over the cargo bed... longish wheelbase... can tow 6000lbs+ $35-$40K or so? Big, gas-guzzling, and ponderous... GMC Avalanche: Truck based SUT... really really big... V-8's aplenty... ah, hell, no use in explaining this one, you don't want one for sure... LOL The only other vehicles I can think of tend to be crew-cab pickups... i.e. Dodge Dakota, Chevy Colorado, GMC Canyon... all body on frame construction... and, with the exception of the V-8 powered Dakota, all slower than a Baja Turbo... That's all I got... after doing the same soul-searching, I came down to just one car- the Baja... I love mine... the best of all worlds, as far as I am concerned... best $23K I ever spent... of course I am biased ![]() |

you missed one, the new Hummer SUT. The Avalanche on steroids. Bigger, more HP, less MPG, etc... and a price tag that is more than I want to even know.

I know you don't even want to know, but I had to look... Nicely optioned.... 2005 Hummer H2 SUT... <drum roll please> $62000 MSRP... And remember: Your mileage may vary! |

So long as we're getting into the subject of extreme SUTs, what about the upcoming International (yes, the tractor trailer manufacturer) CXT? Cripes, I don't want to meet one of those on the road. Includes a 70 gallon fuel tank so you can make it between gas stations.
Seriously, look at the recommended Outback or Legacy lines. If you could stand something that is less sporty maybe look into the Forrester. I definitely like the passenger space that is available in those. -Pow |
