Default Vote for Road & Track's 2005 car of the year...

For anybody that is interested.....R & T is holding it's annual best car of the year vote. Included in the selections is the Legacy GT.

I dont know about the LGT I voted for the Mustang GT it looks awesome and the performance is awesome for the price you pay. For what I paid for my WRX you can get a RWD car with 300 bhp and 350 ftlb of torque and you prabably wont brenade that tremec as easily as the WRX tranny. Dont get me wrong I love my WRX but if I could do it again I would have bought a 05 Mustang GT

The Acura RL is 48K? Geez...that takes it out of the race in my opinion. The best car of the year should be around 30K or less because, let's face it, no matter how good it is, what point is there if only a few people can buy them?

its a sweet car but IMHO they really dropped the ball with the solid real axle

a WRX and Mustang are two very different cars

I Like the mustang for budget muscle. But my vote is going to the Lotus Elise. Wicked car for 39 G's!

I'd vote for the Elise, but I'm not giving in to their spam-generator...

Ford over a WRX? There's no comparison with Ford's outstandingly poor engineering (and the Mustang gets the worst of all their cars). Except sun visors, those are pretty decent.

Voted for the Legacy for sure. If I hadn't bought my WRX in January I would have given the new Legacy some SERIOUS thought.

I can't help but wonder how the 05 Mustang made it to that list when for the most part it hasn't even been released to the public yet (last I heard all the 05's are still sitting on holding lots in Michigan)...

The new Ford Mustang GT is a very very good car. And for those of you comparing it to a WRX.. well your comparison may be valid, yet LGT is a whole new world compared to the WRX. I am afraid that the WRX is now obsolete in every way other than maybe a comfy all weather commuter. Oh wait a base LGT does that better for only a few hundred more.

btw SRF, please remove the blinders.

WRX doesn't deserve to be up there. Its basically the same car for 4 years with no major changes. What's sad is that Subaru seems pleased with our 4 year old WRX and doesn't offer any change like a power upgrade or something like that.

Voted for the MR. It's an amazing car for it's price. I dont' get it If the STi wasn't offered here would you support the Evo? I mean the reason the mazdaspeed 6 is coming is because the Road & Track car of the year and demand of these cars. If next year winner is the evo i'm pretty sure the AWD 280hp focus and many other turbo charged AWD's will arrive or be created.

I think it's normal for a car company to not do any major changes during the model cycle. WRX doesn't get as much attention since it IS getting old, and also it has suceeded so well that now others have come up with some strong competitors.

But still, how many sports compacts have gotten raves like WRX did back in 01~02 even in their early model years? Acura did some midlife make over on RSX but no one even seems to notice it.

Having that said, I voted for LGT although I know it won't win it in the end.

I've owned & worked on several Fords, including Mustangs. Ford does the cheasiest job they can in nearly every area.

There are alot of factors that I use in my choice, I have been out test driving some of these cars. I really like comparing the new models to the old ones they have replaced. All the car makers have dramatically improved their cars. The new mustang is nice and a great improvement over the model it replaces, but its build quality is still too shabby, and ford still has alot of ground to make up to compare to the fit and finish of a toyota, honda, or subaru. The new C6 is very nice the fit and finish is a dramatic improvement over the C5. But it is still not up to the previous JDM standards. The MR is an improvement over its US spec model but still not as good as the JDM model, which still sells cheaper than the MR. 35k for a Mitsubushi, this alone will kill it here in the US, Mitsubushi's do not hold their value that good. If Mitsubushi would have priced this car at 31k It would be a hot seller, my oppinion you will see the MR selling for about 3k off sticker by spring. The Elise is an unbelievable car for the track, but a nitemare for everyday driving. This car is too focused for the US market.
I will be casting my vote here in the next three weeks, I have to go right now going up north to test drive a couple more contestants for 2005 COTY.
