of a silverthorn metallic 2.5 RS coupe!! Well, actually, I dont actually have it yet... it doesnt get to the dealer until the week of the 15th, so I may have it as early as monday. Regardless... Im stoked and I cant wait for the days when I'll be driving my impreza instead of my b!$%# basket of an 84 VW Rabbit. Talk about an upgrade. Well, I look forward to joining the ranks of the few and the proud, (not to mention intelligent). If all goes well... ill see some of you at the auto-x on the 20th.

Where'd you end up buying it at, and how much did you pay if you don't mind us asking?
Was it at Carlsen Subaru in Redwood City? Dave '00 2.5RS Sedan '72 Datsun 240Z |

I orginally went to Carlsen.... however, they were unable to find a financer for me. No one else could either.... well no one but Stevens Creek. So thats who I ended up going through.... It was more costly-- ended up paying 21,500 (before taxes) for the car with all the options I wanted, which is more than a thousand more than Carlsen wanted. Actually the one option I didnt get that I wanted was the air filtration system, just completely forgot about it during the bargaining. Regardless, im stoked-- have I said that already??

Dude, I can totally relate to your feelings there. I have just hit 1000 miles on my 2000 Silverthorn RS and LOVE IT! I work in SF and take BART there every day...so I do miss driving that machine around. But hey, I practically run to it out of the gate...and always take an extra 20 minutes to get home.
Woo hoo! ...and have fun. D. Neil Crawford |

dcrawford-
Thanks, i will definately enjoy my car. I know how it is to take bart into the city.... i hated it. I commuted from the east bay to South SF last year. Bloody eight dollars a day.... and then by the time I got to work I was drowsy. Oh well, no more of that for me. Anyway, did I mention that I get my car today?? Yes... by 3:00 this afternoon, the car will be mine.... |

Lee Boy-
Im not sure I like what youre implying.... I'll answer your question regardless. I think the hi levels of Di-Hydrogen Oxide in our streams and river beds is perhaps the number one source of proper hydration for our otherwise nutrition deficient crops and burgeoning youth. WE MUST END THIS NOW. No more this and no more life! In the words of the great Hansen kid... "I KNOW WHAT THAT IS!! YOU CANT TRICK ME!!" and all hail the GLADIATOR! |

Geez, $21,500 + tax/license = ~$23500 That's a lot of $$$. Sounds to me like they're charging you close to MSRP. Not exactly a fair deal in my book, but you were able to get credit through them, so that's worth something I guess. You must really want this car to allow someone to gouge you like that, or you just have money to burn. What options did you get?
Not to make you feel bad, but my final price was $20719 at Carlsen with the Interior Air Filter, Armrest, Floormats and tax/license all included. All they did was add up the invoice price, add up all the options at invoice price and add 2.5% to the cost for their profit. (OF course they're also getting 3% MSRP holdback so they make plenty of money) But, 2.5% above invoice aint bad, since most dealerships won't settle for less than 3% at best. Anyway, congrats on your new car. I'm sure you'll love it just as much as all of us do. Just make sure you keep up with those payments so they don't take it away from you. Yes... I wish I would have been able to go through Carlsen, the price they offered me was way lower than Stevens Creek. But in all honesty, I'm just glad to have the car. It would have been nice to have two or three thousand cut off the price I paid... but it couldnt be... So it goes.
Anyway, I have the security package, sound package II, rear differential protector, floor mats, trunk net, wheel locks.... and I think there may be something else but I cant remember what... As far as the payments go... I can handle them. Ill be tight for the next two weeks because of the downpayment on both the car and insurance, but it shouldnt pose a problem afterwards. Anyway, the dealer I had was rather interesting.... (Tommy) My brother in law is thinking of getting an RS now.... so he kept telling us to, "Come back and see me... I'll take care of you." The whole time i was thinking, the only reason Im even here is because no one else will finance me. Alas, the plight of the 19 year old. Oh well... if my brother in law does get one, ill make sure he goes through Carlsen. Regards, Mark |

Damn, 19 and you have a brand new 2.5RS?? I couldn't even dream of owning a new car when I was that old, let alone one that cost $24K. I had a hard enough time getting a $500 credit card when I was that age.
How were you able to pull this off? When I was 19, I was the definition of a "starving student". All I did was go to school, and work part-time. I didn't make near enough money to buy a $24K car, or even a $10K car, and even if I did, my insurance was sky high and I drove an old VW Bug. Not trying to knock your style, just a little jealous that I didn't have the same opportunity. ![]() Have fun with the car, and see ya at the Auto-X, in my Datsun of course.
