Default AC Inverter help...how big to run most things?

Need to run a laptop and perhaps charge an ipod or some other moderate consumption devices. I have a crappy AC inverter that won't run my laptop, it just "overheats" in like a second.

What wattage/voltage should I look for so I don't want for more juice?

Look on the charger for your laptop, it should say "XX Watts" on it. Same with your iPod. 200 Watts sounds like a good arbitrary number to me.

The power supplies for the laptop and inverter will tell you what the output is. (V x A = W). Get an inverter to match.

Oh, and don't bother with the "peak" power... base your decision on sustainable power output.

....yeah...that's jsut the load it will take, short term, before the fuse pops...

My laptop has a 75w DC input....so the adapter likely draws 100w or so...
