I can help with this one.

First off, this is what some of the workers get to do on the shakedown stages (but they are not allowed to talk about it afterwards). This is a before shot. The grin was too big to catch in a photo after the ride through Comstock.

1st spectator location is Comstock
The spectator point is about 1km into the stage. The stage start is right next to highway #5 as you get near Merritt. If you get there early enough (I would say around 8:30am), they will let you drive into the spectator area.

The spectator point is close to some very fast sweepers and then a 170 degree hairpin left.

If you get to Merritt before 12:30, you could just hang around the stage start. You may get to chat to Pat Richard, Tom McGeer et al. Hopefully, Owen is still in the rally at that point. Make his day, ask for autographs

If you are at the stage start, it's all tarmac for you. None of that dirty gravel stuff.

2nd spectator location is Helmer
This is a very cool location. Some professional photograpers have taken some great shots here. Last year a Golf almost made the pond of death (end of their rally but the car lived to fight another day). Funny though, they have not been back since.

Helmer spectator point is just over 1km into the stage and just of Highway #5 (again). Still no gravel, cos you have to walk in. Spectator points are all the way along the stage until you get to the main area. Check out previous events to see lots of photos of the area. If a women with 8 kids under the age of 10 can attend every year, you can make it (she's a child minder, they are not all hers ).

3rd location is Princeton
All tarmac, even for the competitors at that location. It's the old highway #5a road. Stage will be running in the dark. The competitors did not like the 300' drop off so we kept for later in the day until they could not see the drop. This is where Owen and Joe went off big time at Mountain Trials and Joe is not happy with this stage.

This is what they will not see in the dark

Not everyone wants to follow Chad down the mountain so they choose to just spin while staying on the road.

Here's an example of the Princeton spectator parking.

This wonderful example of exceptional car control was also taken at the Princeton spectator location

For the rally fans... name the drivers for each of these cars.

The guy in #3 was almost as young as me when I took this photo. He was currently leading the British rally Championship at the time.

If you don't get #2 and #3 you are not a rally fan (or you're too young).

2 Pentti Airikkala
3 Malcom Wilson
4 Tommi Makinen
5 Didier Auriol

Not bad.

1) is Russell Brooks - bit of a give away in the Heat For Hire
3) is Malcom Wilson - was 21yo and leading the British Championship at this event (October).

There were a lot of WRC drivers in attendance as many of the roads were used in rally GB a month later and they were testing.

2) is not even the right nationality. Big clue here... his son has 5 computer games named after him.

4) Driving for Toyota WRC at the time. One of the world champions.

5) The Beetle is the clue. British driver, still rallies.
