Default Opinion on APS Unichip

I know these are kinda old school, but these are selling really CHEAP!

My WRX is a commuter car, with spirited driving every now and then.

My engine mods are ground mod, TBE, BOV, and uppipe.

I still have the stock Intake (with K&N), if the Unichip was tuned with a CAI, will this be an issue if I run this chip?

Can anyone provide any reviews on this Unichip? I'd like to know the reliability, gas mileage, and increase in performance with this chip.

Anything "wrong" with this chip....reliability wise? I live in Toronto, Canada where the weather is colder. APS says their chip is for "North America", do you forsee any problems with running a pre programmed chip in the winter?

ANY information, reviews, opinions, pros, cons you have about this chip, please post.

Much thanks,

Ryan

There is that. Since it works by simply modifying the stock ECU signals, it should automatically adjust for temps like the stock ECU does.

And it's CHEAP!

I ran a unichip with the same setup you are going to run with the CAI and had no ill effects. Even though the unichip might be outdated install wise its not outdated tuning wise. They also offer some plug and play setups depending on your application. To the question at hand its a good deal and you should consider getting it. Ran the set up you are getting for over 1 year and i loved it i have the Access Port right now but if you are dead set on a CAI i would not get the Access Port at this time go for the unichip.

Your in Toronto, go to Yoshio at Japanese Automotive and get a re-flash (Techtom ecu flash). He only charges $350 Canadian for one of his off the shelf maps, and I know he has the same maps as your modded for.

Unichip is outdated. But it's still effective when in the hands of a good tuner.

I think you can find a unichip used for less than 200. A good tune(1 hour dyno tune) will run about 150-200. 400 bucks isn't too bad for a custom tune, all things considered. Only negative to this is that if you add mods, you should re-tune(for optimum performance).

Right now I got the AP, and I'm very happy with it. Don't plan on going further than Stage 2. DON'T PLAN on it can very easily turn into "ok, it's time to add mods"...

As far as what Mr. Mercado goes, I think a Unichip wouldn't be a bad idea at all. If he doesn't mod any more, he should be a very happy camper with it. AP isn't bad for what he has either.
