Talking SubieCard Perks: Brospeed?

K I'm SLOWLY accumulating those points on my subaru card. My question is the Brospeed muffler worth to get? I'd rather get an STI one but I doubt I'll be able to buy it with my points. Anyone know the midpipe diameter for the brospeed?

Oh yeah besides the muffler I'm thinking bout the sti shift knob and short shifter. Yeah its not exactly the best out there but hey! It'll be paid for..hehe. Any other suggestions?

Thumbs up

I think the SPT system is worth it, and I only have the muffler section... many people here will tell you that it's no different-sounding than stock, same diameter pipe, blah blah blah... but if you don't want something that's too loud for anything but a short commute, but still sounds better than stock, it's worth it. Nobody has confirmed gains on the dyno like with the STi system, but I ran it for 2 days with no other mods, and I tell you, it *does* make a difference. It may well be less than 5 hp, but it improves throttle response, and frees up the top rpm range a little. In conjunction with my homemade intake and an Amsoil air filter, it's terrific.
If you are looking for proven gains though, I'd say you might want to go with the STi system that SPD Tuning sells. The sound quality is purported to be about the same (i.e. pleasing change over stock without being too loud/harsh/boomy), somebody confirmed performance gains recently on the dyno (don't ask me for specifics though ) Plus, you might be able to get the STi system for a few dollars cheaper then the SPT system. If I had the extra $ at the time, I may have gotten a new STi cat-back over a used SPT muffler section.

I have the brospeed mid pipe and muffler, and yes, it does make a differance over stock. (not a super big one) I have driven with no other type, but I like it myself. I don't like loud stuff, but it sounds really good to me, nice low rumble....

Default Brospeed question...

I am almost for sure going to pick up a used one of these, Legacy wagon model. I have always thought they were stainless steel, but I am really not sure. Are they? Also, when you get the whole setup what diameter is the midpipe and does it have any resonators in it? I don't think it does, but I would like to hear from somebody who knows for sure.

Thanks, Doug

The system is stainless steel, and the midpipe is supposed to b 1-7/8" (same as stock, I believe) and has no resonator. I am still seeking a used midpipe, BTW.....

Default it's the same as a stock one

I have just bought myself the SPT exhaust (muffler and midpipe). It should be installed tomorrow (oh, I am going to drop off my RS right now and there is nobody to pick me up, so it's a half an hour walk back to my house). Anyway, it is exactly the same diameter as the stock one. You just bolt it on. I don't know about any gains. My stock midpipe cracked, so I thought it is a good reason to please myself and install the SPT one. I am going to have installed an N&G air filter, Bosch Platinum 4+ spark plugs, Whiteline sway bar and SPT strut bar at the same time. Plus I should have my new front rotors and front and rear pads in couple days - let's call it a 60K miles maintenance. Wish me good luck and no calls from creditors

I put the brospeed muffler/mid-pipe with borla headers on my L - I noticed a good amount of gain. i'm going to order a random tech cat and probably a stromung mid-pipe to replace the spt one, then i might change to a stromung muffler too. don't get me wrong, i like it a lot, i'm just trying to get the very most i can out of a 2.2
