Default How to Make an STI Look Like a Sleeper?

I'm seriously considering an STI and if I were to buy one down the road I would like to tone it down a bit appearance wise. I would be looking into changing the rear spoiler, removing the hood scoop (along with a FMI of course).

Any suggestions on different routes or products to use?

I would like to keep some downforce in the rear and not add any extra weight ie 2.5rs hood, but I also want a more tranquil look, you know?

My color choice will probaly be white with gold wheels.

Thanks.

Easy. Spoilerless RS trunk -or- WRX spoiler trunk swap. FMIC + RS hood. Remove all STi badging/stickers and voila. Good luck trying to hide the brembos though.

Here's a crappy photoshop I did of a NASIOC member's car. I have no idea whose this is, I just wanted to see what an STI would look like sans hoodscoop.

It will not look like that unless you get a custom hood made. The RS hood has an indentation in it where the scoop would be like so:

meh I don't know about you guys but I like the way the hood is in my picture. The reverse indentation doesn't do it for me. Also, if you went that route (no hoodscoop) you would most certainly have to add a FMIC, which I neglected to do.

I'd say shave all badges, swap the trunk to either a WRX trunk or a 2.5RS trunk, leave the hood scoop or swap to a carbonfiber WRX hood. Get a dark tint to hide the interior, and possibly swap the rims for something more after market. Also remove that STI badge on the steering wheel. For the most part it will look like a WRX or a 2.5RS but if some one looks closely they can tell. I've been thinking about doing this myself. We will see if I actually do it.

White with gold wheels would not look like a sleeper.

Swap the 17s for some stock 16 wheels from a WRX. Now that would make it look like a sleeper in the sea of WRXs out there. Don't forget the WRX wing.

I realize that the white and gold isnt the most low key combo, but it does bring a refined and classy look to the STI.

Wouldnt the wrx 16 inchers hit the brembos?

you know the stock wrx wheels cant clear jack...

sleepers are great and everything....but removing the wing and hood scoop aint gonna do much. anybody that knows about cars and street racing will likely catch the brembos and the fmic (okay, maybe not the fmic). its like trying to sleeperize a evo...it really aint gonna fool anybody.

you want sleeper, do what everybody does. focus with v8 swap. or old volvo 740 sedan or wagon with supercharged ford v8. its been done and have kits for them.

I'm with you 100%. I thought about doing this, I STILL think about doing this. I wanted a wagon though, so that ended the debate. I just didn't want the bling of the sti. I would go a step farther and redo the interior too. I would do a wrx interior with leather. I would keep the red gauges though, I love those. Selling/trading all the sti parts for wrx parts would keep the cost down too.

keep it as it is outside but swap the motor for a built one or build one yourself,
get it sleeved and then go big on everything internal. Now everybody thinks you have
a regular STI but you know better.

If your'e going to do that. You could build a helluva good wrx (EJ22, 6MT, 18g, suspension etc) and you might find the price is competative to the sti, including the engine mods, EM etc). I guess that STI would cost you about 38-39 when you were done. That would give you about 15K to build a wrx. Are these numbers off?

Seems like there are sleepers and then there are the unconscious, completely out. This discussion appears to focus on the latter.

I took off my wing and all but the front badge (replacing the rear one with a little JDM one), and people seem to think I'm driving a WRX with a big scoop, or something. I get nothing in the way of street-racer challenges. Maybe this classifies only as "drowsy", but it's working, as far as I'm concerned. HPH

I guess. I do want a front mount and no scoop all wrx badging removed. Just ignore the big single tip, please.

That is the definition of a sleeper, very nice. I would love to see the look on the integra drivers face when he gets spanked by what he thought was an imprza rs!
