Default What is that SMELL?

Ok, so this is NOT the smell of the "new car spray" that's put on it in the beginning. I have an '04 WRX with 23,000 miles (give or take) and today, I began noticing a smell coming from under the hood from the passenger side. It smells like when someone is using a glue gun. That burning glue smell. Also, is it normal for a boxer engine's "chopper" sound to be more emminent in the winter time? Since it's gotten colder here in Vegas, I've noticed that when the engine is cool, the car has a very loud "chop" sound to it. Is that normal? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

The sounds you are describing seems normal but the smell doesnt. Why dont you stop guessing and take it in to the dealer? Findlay's Subaru in Henderson.

New cars are not sprayed.. that's the smell of the new plastics and foams releasing all kinds of noxious gasses.

New car spray is the stuff you buy at the store to bring back that acrid stink.

If it was me, I'd pop the hood and start "sniffing" around. If something's burning, you've got a decent chance of finding it.

Subaru has to have the worst smelling new car smell ever. I hated the way my car smelled when I got it.

My car has smelled like **** since day one. This was my first new car purchase and I didn't get the new car smell. I feel cheated.

Febreze works wonders....spray it liberally on the seats, front and back, and let it dry. Lasts for quite a while too.

Check your ac hose that pops throught the firewall right onto your downpipe. When that burns it makes a real nice stench.

no, not really, a hot glue gun smell and the sweet smell of hot/burning radiator fluid are hard to get confused..

This Summer my Forester had the plastic bag smell for several weeks. At least that's what I thought it was. I finally looked it over carefully and it turned out to be a split inner axle boot on the passenger side that was slinging grease down on top of the cat.

That happened to me too. Right side, inner boot slung grease on the TXS downpipe. It even made foul smelling smoke come out of the IC scoop when stopped at idle.
