'05 LGT WAGON buyers - Which other cars did you consider?
Those that have purchased or are considering an '05 Legacy GT WAGON, which other cars did you strongly consider? Note that all the choices listed have Wagon variants that can be purchased for under 35k. Most have AWD available but not all offer a performance variant within the Legacy's price range.
Please choose all cars that apply. If you really did NOT consider any other car, then ask yourself what you might have purchased had the '05 LGT Wagon not been available. If you considered another car that is NOT on this list, do mention it.
For me, the main contenders were:
1. Dodge Magnum R/T AWD (I tested the RWD version as the AWD hadn't arrived)
2. VW Passat W8 Wagon w/sport pkg. (This car is being discounted heavily)
3. Volvo V50 T5 AWD (With it's responsive 2.5 turbo engine, this car also caught my eye but got knocked out earlier than the others because of it's smaller size).

None. When it came down to what I wanted, a sports wagon with manual trans and AWD, coupled with rock-solid reliability, Subaru was the only option. Audi makes a very nice (and slow) A4 Avant, that only gets rapid when you get the S4 Avant, for the price of almost two Legacy GTs. No, thanks. I saw the Volvo V50 at the Chicago Auto Show, after having already ruled it out, and it re-confirmed my original dismissal of the car.
I did, for a day or two, consider a Forester XT or an Outback XT.

I'm with gtguy. We wanted a manual trans, "compact" AWD wagon with some "go" to it. And there are only really two - the GT and the S4. I have a buddy with an S4 6spd. and while it is a lot of fun it was way out of the budget.
The other factor was that the 95 Legacy stood up to 9 years of very short haul driving and related abuse pretty well, and had always done the job in the snow, ice storms, etc. that we get here in winter.
So, $26k later, incl. taxes, tags, etc., a Legacy GT is what we have.

I really had a good look at the Infinity G35x. But i didn't fit into it at all. The Impreza was ok but I ended up with an 04 Legacy Instead. I like the looks and the colour was right. And I save C$9,000.00 about US$7,000.00 over the price of the 2.5i 2005 Legacy. C$20,000 less US$15,500 less than the Legacy GT Wagon.
In 3 to 5 years the LGT Wagon or Sedan will be half price and I will have all the money I need to buy one.
