Default car wants to stall after oil change, new air filter

This morning, I put the car in reverse, no shudder, pulled out and put it into first. I just barely caught it from stalling. Again, when I pulled into the road from a stop, it wanted to stall out again. A few minutes later after coming to a complete stop, the car bucked and the CE light came on for a sec, but then it caught itself and I peeled out. This was after I had the oil changed and put in a new air filter. Even when I downshift into 2nd, slowing down for a light the car shudders more than it normally did before.

Could the air filter be the problem? By the way, I bought a cheapo brand air filter, they didn't have K&N or Amsoil.

Might want to check and make sure the air filter box is closed up correctly. Depending on what year your car is, having an open air box can wreak havoc on the air/fuel mixture.

Also check for any loose vacuum hoses. I've pulled one of those loose before while changing the air filter.

pottsie350 Is the man, I know that when I went to clean my K&N after the US meet rally i had installed it orignally installed wiht the bottom open, even though the top clips were fine. ( i thought it went in a little too easy....) Although I never had any problems either. Regardless reset the ECU.

I'll second the vacuum hose reply. I did the same thing and got similar results, though I really knocked a hose off so it was a bit more dramatic

My car had its second oil change this morning, the first one that I have performed. I switched to Mobil1 synthetic, from whatever Subaru usually uses. The car runs great and it seems to have more power, but the one thing I have noticed is that I used to idle at 900 rpm, and now I'm idling between 400-500 rpm. Is this normal? ECU reset? Please advise.

/Eric

I don't know if the symptoms would be the same, but I remember lots of posts about the knock sensor hearing the oil filter fill with oil for the first time and retarding the enging for a bit. I've never had this as I've filled my filter seperately before installing ever since I read that.

just an idea....

After I switched to Mobil 1 synth I noticed the car idles around 500RPM now instead of 900-1000.

Runs great though.

Thanks remarcable. That was exactly the validation I needed. I love the synth too. Did you use the Drive Clean or TriSynth?

I used the Tri-synth formula since that was the only kind I could find around here, hehe.

Hmmmm...yeah I'll check the hoses and stuff later when I clean my car. About the hesitation, could it be related to the spark plugs? Should I spend the money for NGK or Bosch plugs?
