Default Are subaru short shifters universal for the 5spds/rear subframe bushings?

Iam going to be changing my clutch in my SVX, which has a 91 legacy trannie. Ive been looking for a cheap short shifter, and shifter bushings and was wondering if all the 5spd ones will fit? I was aslo wondering if there are any bushings that would get rid of the shifting clunk coming from the rear, that would fit a SVX? Thanks

I know that the short shifters are different for GC and GD cars. The mounting point for the linkage bolt is wider for the GD's.

I'm not sure about the SVX though. If you measure your shifter and post it's size I'll let you know if it's the same as a GD or not.

You might want to ask Tom@Kartboy about the shifter compatibility. Not sure if a newer one will work on your setup.

You won't be able to use any newer SS's with the 91 legacy linkage. The cheapest thing to do is swap it out for a used wrx one. The only issue, which I think we've discussed before is you've lengthed both the arm that goes to the shifter, and supports. So you'd need to do the same thing

As for the shifter bushings, I really didn't see any difference compared to the old ones, however Tom may be able to give you a specific answer. I know if you upgrade to the newer linkage, the bushings work fine.

Get the whiteline rear subframe bushings for the clunk. It may not totally cure it, but it should help.

they're pretty easy to install. You just jack up the car, do one side at a time. Loosen the bolts holding the bracket on. Slip the bushings on, put the bracket back on, and do other side. Really shouldn't take more then 30 min.

I got mine through www.isrperformance.com for 25 bucks

I guess ill order rear diff bushings up, what about the rear diff lock bolts do you think threre worth it, and streetable? Will the sterring rack bushings from a 93-01 impreza fit the SVX might as well do them while iam in there. Thanks alot for the repleys.

The bushings are the subframe bushings, not differential bushings. Those are another animal. The rear subframe lock bolts do help reduce play/bushing movement in the subframe With any of these mods, especially the subfram one, you'll be adding more noise into the cabin. Whether it's something you want to live with is up to you.

I'm not sure about the steering rack bushings. If they're the same as the first gen legacy, you'll need the 02+ impreza bushings. Every subaru in the US uses the same bushings. The difference in the 93-01 bushings is the pass side bushing is not as wide. My 90 legacy used the 02+ impreza bushings.

You can take some measurements of the clamps. If both are the same width or close to it, you'll need the 02+ bushings.
