Default 4 motion Bites it

I saw some interesting car dynamics on the way home yesterday

Was stopped at a train crossing.. When the Barriers went up a VW Passet 4motion approached the crossing. I watched as the front wheels started to spin.. Then the back wheels started to spin as well. The back end stepped out putting the car at 45 degree's and before the driver could correct, the back wheels caught traction and he shot into the ditch. Very interesting to watch...

The way it acted the VW must be 100% to the front wheels by default and computer controlled transfer to the rear. Buddy must have stomped on the gas because the transition seemed very severe.

ah yes... one of the several moronic drivers in the last couple days. My thinking is "get there alive, not quick"

True AWD helps... and I'm never driving another FWD or RWD again regardless of traction control or 4motion or any other type of AWD mimmicing.

Amen to that... If money allows me..

However, you still have to know how to drive in the snow.. I mean, expecting the car to do everything for you because it's "all-wheel drive" is just begging for trouble. Which, by the sound of it, is a bit what that VW did.. I mean, you just don't floor it when it's slippery. Period.
