"Eva" is the new song, and looking around in...other places...might result in finding more than 38 seconds of it. Anyone else check it out? Rumors were that their new singer is the former Tristania/Sirenia singer (Vibeke Stene), but in doing a back-to-back comparison tonight, I'm not so sure. Might just be the different styles of the bands, but it kind of sounded like the same person and kind of didn't. (Vibeke said she's not the new singer back in March, but it could be a smokescreen. Who knows?) The official announcement of the new singer will be on the 30th, along with the official release of that track. That said, I'm really liking it. Can't wait for the new album now (even though I'm sure I'll miss Tarja)! ![]()

Emperor? Dimmu Borgir? Celtic Frost?
I prefer power metal or death metal, or just straight up old fashioned metal in general. There are a couple of Emperor songs I like, but I'd rather listen to Children of Bodom or Edguy or Iron Maiden. Or Nightwish. |

Been a die hard Nightwish fan myself from the beginning. Maybe I am just comparing her to Tarja but this bitch is way to "pop idol" for Nightwish. Instrumentals sound as good as ever but this vocal belongs in some american rock band or something, not with them...

And I just realized I have a completely different song then what you posted, it's listed as Eva also though and it's the entire thing...

Of all the new members Nightwish could get rid of. I don't think the singer is one of them. She is what made the band unique! I'm listening to that song now. It's alright. What happened to the old singer?

Tarja was booted for basically being a prima donna in a metal environment. It really sucks because like you said, she is what made the band "the band". No one can ever follow that.

It's always difficult when the singer leaves a band. Take Iron Maiden, for instance: Paul Di'Anno, he was replaced (and surpassed) by Bruce Dickinson, but when Bruce left, Blaze never had a chance.
Or Iced Earth: I'm sorry, Ripper, but you're not Matt Barlow. Maybe I'm a little more hopeful, but I need to hear more tracks before passing judgment on the new singer. Unless they've decided to do an entire album of ballads (which I seriously doubt), then there should be more "typical" Nightwish tracks on the new album that'll give a better impression of the vocal direction than any single will. Obviously, Tarja was a big part of the band's sound and what made them unique (and I miss her not being a part of the band), but I'm not ready to write the band off. We need to hear some classic tracks to really see how the new singer is fitting in. I like her voice (whoever "her" is), so I'm remaining optimistic. If it turns out to be the singer from Tristania anyway, I like them, so I think she can fit in (even though that's a little heavier band with more black/death/gothic influences). |

Well, I will probably refuse to ever accept anyone as a singer for Nightwish. So I doubt I will ever be into them as hardcore as I was in the past. Heres the song I'm talking about anyway, http://media.putfile.com/nw-eva .
And about IE, the day Barlow left I gave up on them. They were on their way to being the best pure heavy metal band ever, and then Ripper comes in? To top it off, Shaffer makes statements like "now that we have Ripper, I can turn IE into what I always wanted!" ROFL? God, I hope him and his gay little friend there grow matching mustaches and explore each others rectu...oh wait they did that already. Well at least there is hope now, because Barlow has come back to a power metal band called Pyramaze. http://www.pyramaze.com/index1.php |

Yeah, believe me, I know it's going to be hard to accept a new singer into the band when Tarja was such an important part, but I'm just being optimistic. I think it's because I didn't hate the new singer right away that I'm being hopeful (although, as one friend says, she sounds like every other female vocalist in a goth metal band -- I somewhat agree with that, but we need to hear old tracks). Anyhow, the identity of this person has been released, and it's no one I'm familiar with. Not the Tristania singer, anyway.
Thanks for the heads-up on Barlow. I will definitely look into that and pass that along to some friends who, likewise, are Barlow fans. IE - Barlow = no thanks. |

I didn't mind her so much, I'd rather hear a sample of a heavier song before I made a judgement on her.
Tarja did rock though....tough shoes to fill. |

Yep. Miss the old singer. They don't have a lot of good songs but the ones that are good rock.
