Default Used STI at dealer

Dealer has used 2004 Silver Sti with 1855 miles for sale. He let me test drive it today. It is a sweet ride. Additions were the oem boost gauge, auto dimming mirror and armrest extension. They want 29900. What would be a good price for this car. Previous owner had to trade car in for an Outback for whatever reason. Thanks for all replies.

Nice low miles. Especially if it was not abused. I think 28k would be the max I would go on an 04.

ask him how many miles it was traded in with. chances are they have been using it for people to test drive instead of a new one.

I also went to the dealer yesterday and just mentioned that I was interested in the Sti and he didn't want to let me test drive it. When I said that I was seriously considering buying then he let me test drive it today. I ran a carfax on the car and it returned the last reported mileage as 1852. I don't know where the report of that mileage comes from but it only had 3 more miles on it today when I test drove it.

I just bought a new 05 for 29.9 INCLUDING everything except sales tax at Anchor in RI. I live in Danbury, so I am in the same market as you. Don't go with the 04 when you can get all the befits of the improved 05.

I just picked it up on Sat, so I am sure you can get the same exact deal. Anchor was great to work with as well!!

Email cliff the sales manager and tell him you want the same deal Scott had on Saturday, under $30K out the door (except sales tax) no conveyance fees, or handling fees on top of that either

Used car, low milage. I wouldnt pay close to 29.9. I think realistically I would want to be out of there for 27ish before t+t.....

Like Scottvw said, you can get an 05 with no miles on it for that price. Anchor is a good place to work out a deal at, and it is only a couple hours away. Most other places in the bridgeport area are a joke....

you lucky nut sack... good find tho, and good steel.

the thing that would worry me the most bout buying a new sti.. would be how they handled the break in period u know?

my friend when he bought his, he never took it past 3k, and did racing fuel in her. with an occasional 3500 shift.. the dealership said, when he went to trade it in for an 05 cobra conv. that he had broken in the car perfectly. the guy also said that he's driven a few sti's and this one was the one that seemed the "fastest" cuz of the "perfect" break in

Dude..29,9 is a rip. I paid less than that BRAND SPANKING new. I'd offer 25,5 for it and go no higher than 27 (and even that's too high, IMO). If the dealer doesn't take it, move on. STis aren't rare anymore so you'll find a good deal eventually.

Went to dealer today to try and make a deal. Since I was going to trade my wagon in I let them appraise it. I also let him know my payoff. Of course the amount they were going to give me was equal to what I owe. How convenient. Then he proceeded to tell me the sales manager said that he could take 500 dollars off of the cost to 29495. I laughed and said that I would pay 27000. We went back and forth but the best price they would do was 28900. So I got up put on my coat and left. Oh well no Sti for me. I think I am just going to get a new red wagon. Then I won't have to worry about where to carry my toys.

$29,900 is way too much. A local dealer is asking that for the 3 that they have for sale, none of them have sold yet.

I picked up mine for $27 at another Subaru dealership. I feel that I paid too much for the car, considering I'm still paying retail for the car, but it was within what I considered as a reasonable price buying from a Subaru dealership. BTW, mine had about 9k on it.

I would not pay that much for the car if it was from a non-franchised dealership- then I would be shooting for $25.5.

You should be able to get a '05 STI for just over $30k, brand new. I found that out after the fact, although I probably wouldn't have paid the big premium for a new one ($3k+ is significant to me).

I received an offer from Anchor Subaru in RI for 2 cars in stock at 30,200. Also from Dan Perkins in Milford, CT through the Costco Auto Buying program 500 over invoice. We shall see

Does this "below invoice" apply to Southern California? I can't seem to get any dealers to budge.

I think california is the exception. I know now that Stevens Creek Subaru is the worst subaru dealership but the quoted me MSRP + $7000 for a used 05 with 1900 miles on it. I laughed and walked out....

Check online for a price in your area and the red book and blue book prices. Then take your info in and negotiate. It really isn't all that hard and if you stick to your price 99% of the time they will sell to you. From their perspective having you walk away means they failed, and for an STi it is a big deal. Make sure you get everything you want, even new tires if the ones on there are not to your liking. Play hardball. And remember you can walk away at anytime as long as you don't sign anything. Signing the paper should be the very last thing you do. Also take a friend along who will give an honest opinion. Let them say whatever he or she wants to say and let the sales person hear it. Pick a loud mouth if you are not. It helps when you later say the tires made too much noise and you want different ones. or something else or a price reduction...

For a price offer $25,000 be prepared to pay more but set a limit for yourself. When he says no, ask him for a price. He will say 29,900 and you will say a real price. That's when you quote online prices and such. Then counter with the lowest of these and workout a good price. They will not be asking you to leave without the car you want. Also consider options that you want to install, say an Avic-N1 and build this into your price. It will be something your adding later you will say and you have a limit say $30,000 minus avic-n1 price $2500 and new tires $750 your price for the car is around $26750 tax in. etc...

Just an example of how you might want to pursue this.

Worse comes to worse you can go back a week later in your 05 that Cliff sold to you.

I did just that and I've walked out of 3 dealerships so far with nothing. I'm beginning to think I'm being too frugal.
