Question Quiter in car...Stromung or Borla

I know that this has probably been beaten over the head, so I apologize in advance. I am not talking about overall sound of the exhaust. I am talking about that droning hum inside the car. Some people here have said that the Stromung (my first choice) is noisy inside the car while I have heard that the Borla is not...and vice versa. They both seem to have about the same performance gains. So, are either of them noisy inside, both of them noisy, only one of them noisy (which one?). thanks.

my buddy has a my99 with the borla and jc sports intake and you can not hear it while you are cruising, doesnt drone at all except on deceleration when in gear. stromung you can hear it all the time, slight drone not intrusive imo.

Default Resonate it!

No matter what exhaust a car has, teo eliminate the droning sound, install an 18" resonator inline, and there will be no drone.

I've got Flowmaster on the car. At first, I decided not to have a resonator put on, thinking it wouldn't be too loud. IT WAS TOO LOUD. So the next day, the shop put on a Magnaflow 18" resonator and the loudness was gone. It mellowed out the overall tone, and there was no droning while winding down thru the RPM's or at crusing speed.

this is just a guess but i think a borla would be quieter because it uses 2" piping vs stromung 2.25" piping. there probably isn't that much of a difference because the stromung isn't loud at all. both systems are nice. its really up to you.

I've never heard the Borla exhaust, but I've a Stromung dual-tip with midpipe and I hear it most of the time. It is the loudest when I floor it or around 3.5k rpm, but then it just fades at higher rpm or when I ease back on the pedal. It's not intrusive or too loud though, in fact I find it helpful to be able to hear what the engine when I'm pushing it. When buzzing around town, I often cruise in the key of whatever music I'm listening to. I'm told that Dynamatting your trunk and especially the floor of the cabin will help a great deal in reducing all sorts of noise. The floor pan is pretty thin. Personally, I like to hear my "rally inspired" machine grunt and growl. If I wanted a quiet fast car I would've bought something else. Have fun deciding.

thank you for your "unbiased" replies. I was hoping that I would not get the "I have this exhaust and it is the best" replies and I didn't. I think I am going to go with Stromung and midpipe. And if it is too loud, I could always buy a resonator. Thanks for the input.

Or you can do what i did,,The Stromung dualtip does drone inside the car, but i like the sound outside soooo I went to home depot bought a few yards of there best carpet padding and installed it in the trunk behind all the black panels and in the spare tire well (under and above the spare). It worked!! Quiter inside ,the same outside, and fr cheap. My speakers now sound better with more bass lol

I've owned the Borla catback and heard the Stromung on Greg Elliot's car...

The Stromung is burbly, grumbly, very noticeable. The Borla growls, and it's nowhere near as high pitched as the Japanese exhausts, but it's not as deep as the Stromung.

I now have a Borla muffler with a muffler shop hack-and-weld job, and maybe it's hearing the heat shield vibrate after 3 days of 3500rpm+ driving, but it's milder, deeper, and softer than the Borla catback despite slightly wider piping.

I agree with Overtime, the stromung soungs really deap, and burbly in Greg's car. His car is an automatic if that makes a difference at cruise??

Overtime, Greg is finally getting a 2000 5 speed. Hopefully thursday he says.

About 100sq feet of dynamat will quiet down that exhaust drone when you have the windows rolled up.

Home depot does Not carry dynamat..Most good car stereo shops do.But its PLENTY exspensive. Try the carpet padding it worked fr me and it cost me around 20 bucks.
Rudy,,,and yes i do love the sound of the dual tip Stromung
