Default So i'm moving to Florida, help on finding inexpensive decent living space?

Been looking to move for a while, and i'm nearing being ready to start trying to find where exactly i'm going to move into. I'm looking in Orlando area, south eastern side. Preferably, outside 'big city' in a more rural, suburban type area. My buddy's who's staying with his brother currently down there, said the singles in there complex are around $600/mo, util not included. Providing Stove/oven, dishwasher, fridge. No carport though. Wasn't a bad deal, but i'm sure with the power of OT someone might now better.
I have $10K saved specifically for this move. I'm currently unemployed, but still have unemployment checks coming to me though the end of dec. One of the reasons i want to move is due to my job status, and the lack of IT jobs in my area. So without a job, a house doesn't look to be attainable until I have a good paying position (bank won't give money to the jobless). The thought of a condo or townhouse seemed appealing, but from what my buddy was able to find, they're around $1000/mo and up, and I can't afford that on my current $1200/mo income.
So, FL ot residents, any idea’s on decently priced, non ghetto central Florida living?

1 bed/1 bath 600-800 sq ft

Ghetto - $450-600
Non-ghetto - $600-700
Nice/expensive area - too much

That's how it is in Tampa anyway, should be similar in the Orlando area. Remember to budget for absurd elec. bills in the summer. I'd say find a decent 1br/1ba for no more than $650/month.

Well, there should be plenty of cheap real estate in Florida after all of these hurricanes.

DoinkMobb's approximation is actually very good. It really depends on location. From what you are describing, it sounds that you'll be paying northward of $800. You might have to consider something more ghetto in South Orlando if you want to stay in $600.

It was a silly joke (better than posting 'bump'). I don't know anywhere out side of ny city where you rent parking.

doink is pretty much spot on. though if you do look around, there are bargains to be had. i used to live in a pretty nice 2br duplex in the college park area for $550, no long term contract. lots of the older neighborhoods in the downtown/winter park area are kind of pricey, but every once in a while you stumble across that odd person just looking for someone long term/steady, and you find a deal. things are also a good bit cheaper in the outlying developing areas - in the rosemont area, you can get a nice apartment for $5-600, though it is bordering on areas that could be termed "ghetto". anything in the dr. phillips/metrowest/kirkman road/buena vista area is going to be $$$$ and packed with retarded yuppies. some areas of altamonte and nicer areas of apopka might be places to look too, but then you're about 10-20 miles out of orlando proper.

welcome to the land of low wages and steadily increasing costs of living! look out SoCal!
