Default Is this in my head or can this mod gain noticeable power?

I have a 2003 WRX with Cobb stg 2 reflash, uppipe, down pipe, 3rd cat eliminator, and a Borla 2.5 inch catback.

I just put on an STi catback to keep the sound levels down. But I would swear it does not feel as fast as with the Borla. The Borla is a straight-through design.

It does not feel as quick - is this in my head because the STi catback is so quiet?

I switched from 2.5" to 3" axle back on my 3" exhaust a while back.
There was no difference in power. The 3" spooled faster. It is possible that the Borls caused slightly faster spool. That could give the illusin of being faster. As far as noticible hp, can you feel =+5whp. That is all there would be if that. If you are sensitive then yes it is noticible. I personally can't really feel less than about 15whp. If the turbo came on harder and faster I can feel that however. I put my money there.

The feeling of speed is very subjective. My guess is that the sound has alot to do with it.

The sti muffler is a little more restrictive but you should nt feel the powerloss to be that significant?

Slower spool time which means slower starts. It's up to you.

I experienced a similar lack of performance when I replaced my Scorpion (Prodrive oval tip) with the stock muffler. The power is still there, but I definitely feel like the turbo kicks in a little later or I need higher rpms to make the same power compared to the Scorpion. It feels plugged up. This is with a Scoobysport DP and Cobb stage 2 (3rd cat and resonator retained). I'm kinda bummed because I really enjoyed the silence and stealth.

I'm putting the Scorpion back on tommorow. I want to see if there's a performance increase or if it's just my imagination.

I ran the stock wrx muffler with an up/dp for a good few months. I swear it felt like the biggest improvement was when I got a catback. The butt dyno really noticed a quickness about the car. So I totally believe you when you say the muffler makes a noticable difference.

a guy posted regarding his dyno charts, of his electronic downpipe cutout open and closed. open was 3+hp more than closed. he had perceived the car to be much faster with the cutout open.

When I just put on my espelir (I was with a stock u/p and d/p), I could feel a little more gain in the top end (not a hell of a lot, but you could def feel an extra pull that wasn't there w/ the stocker), but the rest of the powerband was the same.

Even when I switched froma prodrive axle back to an sti axle back... I could feel the difference up top with the car running out of breath and SLIGHTLY increased lag. I'm sticking by saying there IS a difference.
